they are brackets to put larger brake calipers/discs on your mk1. so i can then put larger discs but you cant put any bigger then 288mm.
I really want my golf to have good performance on brakes and suspension, that's why im buying all these parts.

    • cool Gordo. I'm guessing you'll eventually upgrade all the lines as well as the booster and MC at some stage too then?

what calipers will you be running? Hope you've got some bigger wheels, cause those 13's won't work with 288's

        Thanks Jarred

        but im not going 288.

Iv got to measure the discs(will do tonight)

I will replace the lines but im not sure if i should go braided lines or just get stock ones but new.

also, i will be mk3 booster most likely.

calipers are from a mk2 gti.

          • GTI discs are good enough for a Mk1 in my opinion. Unless you want to build a circuit car that needs exceptional braking performance for a long period of time, i'd just use GTI discs. That's what i've put on my Mk1 (it only had GTI discs on the front previously and it's braking performance was quite good).

GTI discs are almost too big for standard 13's. The disc shroud is a tight fit on them.

            • im guessing if he's using those caliper spacers he'll be using 256's... like std mk3 heritage i think... dont quote me. i've seen this setup before on a mk1 gti.... i guess it was used in that case instead of moving to a later model booster/master cylinder, for originality purposes. in the case where that doesnt matter too much, i also concur the booster/master cyl upgrade to be pertinent.

in osme ways, it could be a nice way to help with brake balance - running 256's on the front with spaced out calipers would help if running the late model booster setup with say... cordy drums on the rear (like me) where you could argue that the drums have too much bite compared with the gti disks and calipers... however i reckon you can overcome most of that just with pad choice

I`d agree with this, Good GTI disks and pads with a bigger booster and master with new pads and fluid. Thats enough for all except very extreme Mk1s.

I have 280mms on the Rocco with Mk2 Calipers and the linkage bar deleted and Late model booster and Master cylinder. Cordoba drums on the rear. The brakes are awesome, which is good cos the car is fast.

                      • you're going to need some well clearanced 15s and/or spacers to run those bad boys.

you could just rock 13x8 out the rear...? with gti calipers and disks you could keep those phat wheels though... tough call, phat or safe??

                              yea man.

if you want to run those 13's you'll have to stick with mk 1 GTI gear. donno about the mk 2 GTI stuff.

lol...you should research things first bro....

                                quick maths.

                                13" rim = 330mm

take away the disc 280 leaves you with 50mm, thats an inch per side of the disc

just run std gti brakes with bigger m/c and servo
