Well I have hillclimbed my Mk1 Golf Supercharged and was over 1.5 seconds faster than a 1800 valver in Mk 1. I now am going to put on Avon 10 inch slicks Berg cup style and flared guards with chin spoiler. I beat most old 911s and posted 0-100 KPH in 6.3 secs. The reason I did not get faster overall times was because my gearing was not correct and I could not grab third. Now with much smaller wheels I will corner better and get third no probs.
My car is in paint and then will be getting dynoed before I replace the 1.6 with a 1.9 and a bigger blower. I run an 80 locker diff and Weitec coilovers. The car is fully braced front and rear, top and bottom with a five speeder. I run a half cage with fully stripped interior and a Sparco racing shell. The Ol swallow tail will just get quicker and become more developed. For hill climbing N/A is big bucks and turbo lags but a blower has the torque you need to get out of the box. My car is only 3-4 10ths slower to the first mark than a 930 turbo. 800 kgs max and dropping as I intend to put plexi windows in and I have removed the window mechanisms. A 10 kg saving.
I have also began with groud effects and have bought a dry sump system from the states to give me more ground clearance. Finally I bought a windage crank scraper from Bildon Motorsport to make sure oil is always on the job. Gotta love Golfing. My aim is eventually to beat the the 911 RSCS which is currently 3.5 secs faster than me at the Collingrove hillclimb.Much constant development is required for hillclimbing and each time you go out you race against yourself.
I won Gold at the Masters Games, First in wintercup improved production 2-3L class as 1.6 has to be timesd by 1.7 for force induction. and I got a 4th in the SA Hillclimbinbing Champs behind turbo RX7s with 300+ HP. I will hold up the VW end and eventually beat these guys "MARK MY WORDS". I thouroughly enjoy hillclimbing and recommend it to Golfers as a safe and affordable motorsport. Hey I sold my 944 S2 as the Golf was more fun ( I rest my case). Cheers JJ

Would love to see your car. So did you use the sc12 or sc14 supercharger? I'd be interested to see how you plumbed things up and mounted everything. I set up an sc14 on a 2.0l in a mk1 about 6 years ago, worked great.
Went around to my mech's house last night and he had a read through this thread and that link (thanks Jarred). He said he's going to keep it carby and get it breathing better just for the moment whilst he decides on what turbo setup to use. He also has a VAG diesel turbo sitting in his house but he is doubting that would work, i wouldn't imagine it would. Anyone have any reason to believe otherwise?
Thanks of the advice on page 2 JJGOLF77, seems like you know your stuff, will take all that onboard. However, if you are going to post up pics and full details of your car, would you mind starting your own thread for that instead of hijacking mine. I would like to keep this thread focused on this project car.

thankyou - you just re-inspired me about hillclimbing, i hang out all day at work with a circuit racer and i was leaning that way, but the "safe and affordable" part got me over the line.

Do u know what kind of turbo it is? I may want it
I know that petrol turbos are too laggy on the diesels but unsure of whether diesel turbo on a petrol would do. FYI my tiny turbo starts to boost at about 1800 and runs out of puff at about 3000rpm.

sorry mate i can't remember, he did tell me but i forgot . I'll ask him again tomorrow.
I think diesel turbos will run out of puff on a petrol.
