  • series 1 dash question

Does anyone have a picture of where the choke cable is located near the dash?

I know they dont have a hole for the choke like the series 2 dashes so where is it located? i dont want to drill a hole in the dash to mount it.

I gather its on a bracket seperate form the dash.

Any info or pics would be great!

    Thanks

As far as I've seen, I've only ever seen electrical/heater style chokes on the mk1's out here.

    There were two different model's.

One was a ignition sourced power electrical version.

The other was a coolant heater style version running a couple of hoses of the intake manifold heater.

perhaps get a set up like was used one the diesels, for thier "choke".

It's a little bracket that mounts off the side of the steering wheels column,.

In the lower section of the padded bit below the instrument cluster there is a patterned sqare section. That is where the manual choke control went. The choke contol had a square recessed plastic surround with the knob in it. I think I have the dash part somewhere at work. Unfortunately the cable has been cut.
I pulled it out of an African model.

My car runs a choke under the dash on the steering column, best way to explain is opposite side of the key barrel. My car used to be a diesel, i believe this is a remnant of the sooty motor. Works well though

                      Here you go ross.

From afar. "choke" is located on the left of the steering column.

                      side on:

                      side on, choke out:

                      underneath:

                      Upclose:

I can't actually see where the bracket is mounted too specifcally, but, the bracket bends up and sits between the bottom of the dash and the steering column. The cable heads straight towards the firewall. Hope this helps.

The bracket is sandwiched between the steering column & steering column/body mount.

The bracket cant be sandwiched without a screw or something to hold it in place surely? Any more info on that? I cant remember if theres anything it can be screwed to in that area. Its been a while since i have looked there

                          thanks guys

Even if you don't set it up exactly like the diesel one, I'm sure you could knock something up similar that screws in somewhere...

I could yeah, but id like it as close to an original vw part as possible...

I'll see what I can come up with

                              Cheers
