Hmm, I saw that at VW Scene in Germany... it certainly isn't a $32,000 car by resale standards. The paint is pretty bad and the panels are all different shades in the sun. Engine work is nice and would positively haul ass, but it's no show car by Euro standards.

It would be around $70,000+ to build the equivalent down here by the time one has freighted all those parts down, but things are different in Germany!!

Nah, that's a different one again - that one's even worse, but has a very tidy engine bay! There's also the dark blue series 2 in the UK with the Ronal Racing wheels.

thats a very nice car trust me that under body work is a mission!!! my mates currently doing full under body detail to his 83 gti what a mission it is getting all the crap off i can see why its priced the way it is, it probably wouldn't be worth buying and bringing over but building one to the same quialty will still cost you a packet.

Spot on It's now on different wheels. I think someone posted pics of them on E38 a while back.

The bloke has spoiled it... as he was always going to. That car was the perfect example of a 'finished project'. I think it sold for the equivalent of $30k in the end, but there were rumours flying around that he'd spent nearly 100,000 Euros on it... and it was almost entirely home built! Yes, people spend way more than that on hod rods etc, but they pay for a lot of the work to be done for them.

A great car. Hopefully someone builds something like it down here one day

Why are you guys so quick to criticise? I dunno what car you mistook this for at the German show with different coloured panels but it certain wasn't this beauty, because it still has the original paint job. This car won best MK1 at Worthersee '07!!!!!

And calling the bloke who bought Marco Haegers MK1 a muppet.....whats that about. Getting a car like that for 10,000 g's is a bargain, its still winning trophies all over europe.

If i had the money i would buy this car in an instant. The amount of work, attention to detail and rare parts in the car puts it on another level, where money isn't an issue.

Just read some of the spec list, 80% brand new using original VW parts not cheap aftermarket stuff shows how much effort went into the resto alone. Then there's the wheels, Magnesium Ronals (!!!!) try finding a set of those. And then there's the engine a 16v G60 making 200+bhp.

If you are still not convinced get your hands on a copy of PVW Feb '08 and read the write-up on this car.

its not original paint, said it was restored in 02, and you can tell from the 3/4 shot the 2 diffrent shades of silver, yes it was obviously a professional job, and the detail and cleanlyness is insane, but usually when 2 tones accur, its usually because the panels have been sprayed "off body"

We're thinking of a different car then! I was at Worthersee in 2007 (and the local meet in Hardenberg - both of which this car attended) and several others the year prior

I have the Feb 05 PVW with that in it, absolutely amazing car.


Pretty sure this was in PVW a few months back, is this one got original interior? including dash?

Just found the mag, yeh its the same one as in PVW same photo's used actually. Nice build, love the stock interior.
