  • Removing rear chrome bumper

Ok, so I'm about to finally get around to replacing the rear bumper on my Golf after some so-and-so knocked it without taking responsibility.

The question I have is how exactly do I go about it? I figure that the end caps have to come off first to make the bolts accessible. But I'm not sure how to even do that without breaking them. I have a replacement bumper with the caps and it's not clear how the caps come of.

So, as usual, any/all comments and suggestions welcome.

    Cheers

i thought you just undid the bolts inside the hatch bit then it slid out?
2 on each side down on the left and right of the wheel well but more to the back?..

Thanks. The bolts seem to be a real pain or near impossible to undo with the endcaps in place as they're on the inside part of the bumper. So is there any trick to getting to them? Also with the bumper bent the way it is it's even harder to get to the bolts on the right hand side.

Sorry if these are all dumb questions - I'm not that technically minded and want to leanrn from others' experiences.

The bolts are inside the boot not the bumper. You remove the brackets from the car with the bumper still attatched to them. You're trying to take the bumper off the brackets while it's still on the car

Bring some stellas over and I'll fit a new bumper for you

D'oh! I knew there had to be an easier way! I just assumed you remove it from brackets, and, being an old VW, is just a bitch of a thing to get at.

            Robin, I'll be in touch

Thanks! Fortunately I don't have to do the front!
