I have just like the front angle covering the sump plug but, I need to take the sump plug out with a rachet instead of a spanner thats the only problem other than that nothing really.

I have almost managed to destroy that to

I do have a new problem and the car is going nowhere at the moment but, I can't seem to start it.... It cranks and warms up for a few mins and then the car just dies but I can't start it again straight away, wait around 2 hours and kicks up again

I'm thinking either alternator or Starter, even though the starter feels like its trying to kickstart, I'm just not sure

            • I think you've got something wrong with the Kjet. Sounds like a warm up reg issue to me. hence you can only start it when it's cold, but when it's warm it doesn't work.

Try and get in contact with Tim. He might be able to help you out.

EDIT: or search around in the mk 1 section, there are plenty of post's with links about Kjet troubleshooting and so on and so forth.

check the alternator with a multimeter for starters (across the batt, whilst car is running). if the starter still starts it, I wouldn't think there's a problem with it, unless it's super super super slow to crank it over.

Cheers Jarred will try and get onto Tim tonight, however its weird when I start my car and don't leave it to warm up as long as it does sometimes and drive off its fine

                • Yea, I'm still going to go with Kjet issue. Does it stall once you start driving and then it gets warm (say if you're sitting in traffic??)

Nope, it happened a few times in the period of about 2 months and after each time it was fine

If I get in the car and drive and not let the car idle too much its fine, no stalling in traffic nothing

It happened again friday this time my dad took it up to the autoelectricians and he cant book it in till thursday which is what I did, but just trying to think what it could be. It won't even kick now so the battery looks like its drained. We measured the battery volts yesterday at 11.56V, shouldn't it be around 13V? and this was at the battery itself.

                    • it's a 12V batt, so it should be about 12.5V without anything on. When the cars running, it should be around 13.5-14V, with nothing (lights etc) on

Have a look in my diesel thread, there's abit of info in there about finding shorts and other battery related things. I'll link you in 2 secs.

look through the last couple of pages, hopefully that'll be a start there.

                        • So just thought I would update this thread, but just managed to get the car to the autoelectricians yesterday. After charging the battery for 2 hours took the charger off and tried to kick start it, almost it was idling and then died. Waited twenty mins with the charger on the car this time as I started the car, kept the car revving to get it up there but it worked, WTF is wrong no idea

                          • I had a similar thing, not necessarily your issue - but I had a dodgey lead connection to the fuel cut off solenoid from the ignition. I changed the lead and the ignition switch and the issue has not returned.

Sounds like it is starving of fuel.

Hmm interesting I also thought about that but I only just replaced the fuel pump in March.

Anyway I got a call from the auto electrician, and well I have been ****ed! there was a cable from the alternator to the battery that was frayed that needed replacing which was cool and then this:

AE"Steve how old is your battery mate?"
Me"Only just brand new 6 months I got it in January when the car was blueslipped"
AE"I checked the date and its from the 08/04"
                              Me"Phuk off?"
AE"Yeah you have been jipped its losing a full volt when you turn your lights on!"
                              Me"Hmm well thanks mate"

So looks like I will be knocking on someones door with a bat anyone care to join me? We can have a cruise while we are at it?

                              • I always buy my batteries from NRMA now. They fit it, have a replacement on the street side if it fails under warranty and they are REALLY POWERFUL. (albeit a bit more expensive) Your story sucks - sorry to hear.
