  • Brakes for a mk1

    Hi guys

Just wondering what kind of brake options are for a mk1.

A car I purchased is a mk1 cabrio gti, it seems to be a import. I just want to know what there is out there to make that brakes a little better than what they already are.

    Cheers Steve

I think you'll find your brakes will be fine, compared with a standard 77 GLS. for eg.

You should already have GTI calipers with vented discs. Decent pads and good fluid will heap with feel/performance.

I think you'll have a mk 2 spec booster/MC assembly, but not 100% sure. The bigger booster will help improve "feel" but the MC will actually help braking performance.

Search for Pete Jones' series of write up on brake upgrades, plenty of great info there.

Sort of on topic....does anyone know whether this rear disc brake kit will fit a 93 Cabrio?

ahaha yep! I've spent twice the money on the 16v engine in parts and labour than what i paid for the little goof originally! And that's just the engine! And i'm doing most of the work myself!

                  Link doesn't work sorry.

Any mk2,3 (except 5 stud/VR6) rear disc setup will bolt straight on & you will need a pair of scirocco 16V handbrake cables & also a definate must is a pair of Scirocco 16V proportioning valves!

Otherwise the back end will like to lock up & turn you around!

these ones come with non ventilated rotors. Not sure of the thickness.
