Hello everyone,
I live in Ontario Canada and was planning a trip over some time this winter (probably January)
I have a couple of questions
How hard is it to find these bumpers?

How much does a complete set usually cost? Mounting brackets, rubber strip and end caps included? Used prefered. How much does a set weigh?
Do you have pick-and-pulls over there with mk1s?
Are there any North American parts that you would like me to bring over with me for you guys?
Here's a picture of my 84 rabbit, or golf whichever you prefer


Oh, what kind of temperatures should I expect in January?
How old do you have to be to rent a car and how much does it cost? Roughly?

Welcome to the forums.... and to Aus when u decide to come.

Temperatures in january are perfect! Its summer, so you would be looking at around high 20's low 30's, but it can be as high as 40 on the odd occasion. Thats around 90 degrees fahrenheit average for the month of january

To rent a car you have to be over 25 if your a male. That was about 2 years ago, so i doubt it has changed.
It costs from about $30 AUS for a bomb upto $70 for a newer car (per day)

Hi and welcome.
Tasmania is the place to see ,costs are lower than the big smoke.
There were lots of Golfs around with those bars but are getting harder to find but not impossible.
Just being observant but the picture of the red Golf has its bar ends on upside down or wrong way around.

The red one isn't mine, but I'll keep that in mind incase I ever get some euro bumpers.

So on a scale of 1-10 how hard would it be to get 10 complete sets? Preferable OE. Used of course.

How rare and expensive are we talking? I'm sure they are much more pricey over here.

20-30 sounds just about right to me. That's how hot it is here right now, although we hit 44 with the humidex yesterday. That was miserable to work in.

Looks like I won't be able to rent a car... that really sucks. I'm only 20.

You could probably buy an old car for less than the rental cost and sell it or dump it before you leave.

I have sold a set of those bumpers on ebay for $500 and sent them to the UK.

Dont fancy your chances of getting ten sets.

If you pay extra, about $12/day, you can hire a car if you are 21-25.

Hmm from someone else I talked to from Australia he made it sound like you were loaded with bumpers. He said he was about to throw a set out.

I was hoping to bring a few sets back to help offset the cost of the trip. They normally sell for about 1000 US over here from the couple of sets I've seen for sale.

In regards to buying a car, is there a temp trip permit I can get on it or just regester it for road use for a month? What are the regulations you have?

Backpackers from all over the world do this all of the time. (By the way, welcome to our forum )

Just find what you want (this forum could be your source), buy it, insure and use it, sell it before you go. Probably a backpacker will buy it

In Australia, the car is insured when it is registered. Then anyone with a licence can jump in and drive it. Buy one with rego, have your fun and sell it with rego. pain free. Dont buy one in the middle of Sydney, as that is the most expensive and dont buy one from a backpacker as they dont maintain them.

Its the 21st century, there are few golfs left and fewer bumpers. We know they go for big bucks overseas, thats why they have value here. I have a few sets under my house that I sell to backpackers to take back on the plane.

What is rego?

Definitly no gas mk1s for me. I know nothing about carbs.

Bumpers are still cheaper over there (from what I've learnt so far) then they are here. Basically I need to bring some back to help pay for the trip otherwise it won't happen at this time unfortunatly.

So basically I buy a car, regester it and then I can drive it?
How much does the regestration process cost roughly?
