  • Where can I get a refurbished or new Warm Up regulator ?

I've got a 1990 Mk1 Cabriolet. The warm up regulator is faulty (hunting RPM at idle after engine warms up). It also seems to have gotten a little thirsty

I've had it pressure checked by reputable VW mechanic & inicated that warm up regulator is faulty - (quite a common fault with the Mk1 cabrio apparently).

Mechanic priced a new unit at $1000 !!!! But surely there might be soemone out there with a refurbished or aftermarket unit at a more reasonable price. (which is what the mechanic suggested I do)

I've found a unit that I can get from US - but seems I should exhaust all loal options first.

I live in Sydney - but don't mind sourcing a regulator from inter state.

If anybody can help that would be great !

    Welcome FangioVW,

Is your car running k-jet ? I probably have one sitting somewhere.

      recon / replace or calibrate.

      Hiya Fangio,

      I would recommend these guy's,
      http://www.aussieweb.com.au/details.aspx?id=1927786

I sent them my fuel distributor and control pressure regulator for overhaul

Did a great job, car ran flawlessly when i got them back.

Was about 8 day turnaround from mailing the parts over to getting them back.

These guy's can likely do the same ..http://www.southportfuelinjection.co...0Injection.htm

      Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

      Cheers,
      Grant...

last year I had a problem with the Cabby not willing to accelerate after starting on warm days. After about 5 minutes, normal service resumes. This problem went away (Fingers crossed) so I no longer worry about it.

I was told it was the Warm UP Regulator sometimes known as a Control Pressure Regulator, which needed to be replaced as they are not repairable.

So I am quite interested they can be rebuilt, Whats the cost on that service?
(If you don't mind me asking)

          I`d get one from Engerland.

            WOW - thanks guys.

            Thanks for the leads.

To the various posters - Yes its a K-jet with Lambda 1.8 L & yes they are rare & dear as poison ! While widely available in the UK they are around the 250 pound mark meaning that landed in Aust. I'd be looking at around $600. I think the best bet is sourcing one from the US (see below) if I chose to go down that road.

REDMk2GTI - thanks for your offer - I'll get the part number off the unit see if it matches - I would presume it may need reconditioning ? (I'll work out how to send a private message to you through the forum - looks like I can but haven't tried it)

The chap at Southport was willing to do an exchange, however, he refered me to a chap in Sydney to check with him first. He has not returned my call yet. Anyway, the chap at Southport said he may not have a unit to exchange - so I'll need to send him mine. This is a big problem as my wife uses the Cabrio as a daily "hack" to go to work - so it would be difficult to "park" the car for a fornight. So, REDMk2GTI - if I buy yours & send that to Southport - that might be a good solution for me even though it might cost me extra.

To all you others out there - I came across an Ebay listing for a refurbished regulator from the US - it will probably be around the A$300 mark landed in Aust. The seller was " pelhamautoparts " - they seem to have a large selection of VW parts. Unfortunately the regulator was sold before I had a chance to double check the part number. A new one hasn't been listed & I'v sent a message asking if they have more.
