Think of it as organ donation, you are allowing other Mk1's to continue living.

And as usual, the funds are simply redirected into more mods for the Weiß one, so it is sort of similar to composting as well!

        • Returned home from work to find the postman had dropped off some parts

extractors, HD mount kit and 5 speed linkages

time for the little golf to get an engine in it again!

          • Tonight, I pulled the rear beam, exhaust and fuel tank + filler neck. Gotta give the fuel tank a good rinse out tomorrow arvo. Still gotta notch the frame, rebuild the rear drums for max skids, fit tail lights, fix some rust in the hatch seal, mount everything back up, get her running and then on the trailer to DUBSTITUTE!!!!

            • Gave the extractors a clean up with some acid then a coat of heatshield and began wrapping them up

chased all the rusted seam section out from the wing,

              budget aircon!

once finished it was looking a bit daunting so decided to get onto the repair sections.

will have to bribe a welding friend to give me a hand getting those finished.

new engine is in and running like a dream so far. the frustrating part is waiting for larger cv's before I can drive anywhere

              before

              and after

                • that's the old 1600 water boy, still has the side drapht can just see the red socks near the firewall.

-might happen in the future though, could then keep vac advance and a semi sensible fuel bill.

                      • Bought some carbon bumpers. They look great but not sure they suit the direction I wanted to go. Colour coded fitment hardware anyone?

                          • Mr golf had his "air vents" sewn up and resealed

before setting up the 5 speed linkage and a homemade short shift was wheeled out for it's first proper drive with the new engine and everything up to speed.

I was expecting something to play up or at least need adjusting but the car is running like a little steamtrain.
the mk2 1.8 is a hoot, definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of going down that track.
also got some tyres mounted to the wheels i will be using,

hopefully go for rego next time I'm home and install the suspension and brakes. although the stock setup is very comfy it's a little high up as it sits..

Have to get together and have a chat once she's registered & I can drive mine long distances! Get a bit of a WA Mk1 crew

No progress for me really, ripped out some un-needed wiring whilst I worked out how i'd do a basic wire tuck. Also ordered a tonne more parts for the overhaul of the suspension

                              • Installed a new heavy duty maintenance free battery. Pulled the 15x6.5 alloy rims off put the original steel rims back on. Started making a "to do" list of what needs to be done for a blue slip.
