Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I forgot to mention that I met a dude and his wife who have a Mk1 diesel (currently unregistered) and a Mk1 Cabby while I was getting a wheel alignment. Nice people. I should have given old mate my card.. The car might have been for sale given the right speel..

          • gave the golf a front seat transplant this evening with seats peter jones gave me, ended up the seats needed a triple bypass because the rail width in the car was about 30mm wider than the seat bases. So i skinned them both and swapped bases.

Hahaha, cheers dude. All stopping at the moment for the next 2 weeks as we have to get the Dragster and trailer ready to ship out to the states!

So that means the trailer has to fit in a 20ft container..

Fun fun. Got to plasma cut, drill, grind, angle grind and weld all day today.

                  • Removed the 20-30 year old crappy purple tint today. This was something I have been planning and dreading for a while and I was pleasantly surprised when it peeled off fairly easily. I thought I was home and hosed until it came time to clean off the horrific adhesive gunk. nearly 1 litre of acetone later, and hands stripped of all moisture they came up pretty good. I never want to go through that again...

                    • I guess you don't use acetone a great deal if ever
But I learnt from reading that acetone goes into the system of your body and destroys your organs
You probably need to be a surfboard shaper from the 70s to be concerned about this tho

Yeah, same with Nitromethane. But you need to be in contact with a lot for a long time for it to hurt you, really.

My internal organs are still intact as far as I can tell Acetone isn't that bad, its used as nail polish remover. But like you say you wouldn't want to be exposed to it day in day out. I'd love to know how the professionals remove old tint adhesive.

                          • The Zebra Rally Golf went back to Dyno Tune today... The weber 40's are being a pain! Surely "Fuel stays on the INSIDE" should not be too hard to remember?

PS. I think one of the most worrying sights has to be "petrol steam".
