If your meaning makeing it look like a golf country its a freakin mad idea. a small set of chunky tyres, a few inches of lift and a set of flares and it would be cool.
Not something im going to do in a hurry, but i rate the idea highly.

I've raised a couple of mk1's back from the dead

          Only joking.

Raising them can bring about the same problem's as lowering them!

How high do you want to go?

you should be able to lift them up abit in the suspension and then let the tyre do some lift as well. shouldnt really be very hard to get abit of lift. you might be able to get new longer shocks and springs for the front and back. will prob have to come of another car. i think mk3 rear shocks will fit and raise the rear . and you could lower the shock towers and lengthen the front strut housings, should all be pretty easy.

I'm wasnt thinking too extreme, just flipped drop plates in the rear, and either strut top spacers or a strut conversion. (golf top mounts, and the shimmed hub mounts, can use basically any strut-type shock/spring so long as the spring isnt too wide to pass through the body.

I was originally investigating strut-conversions for lowering the car, found a few possibilities but most would either lower the car too much, or raise it.

And something like 205/60 on 13x6 wheels to keep it all legal.

speaking of which, does anybody know the legality of raising a cars? i know they are everywhere but that means **** all

While i was under my car today I noticed that the sump is all dented in from 30 years of driving at stock ride-hight.... how do you guys do it slammed

Las car i saw rased was a mates old vovlo 340, he took out the springs and stuck in some from a Sherpa, old Leyland van, it did the trick, but im not sure what the benefit was.

The bits that go to the wheels....

Gotta be a bit careful! There's only so far that you can stretch the CVs before you bugger them and you'd have to make sure that it dosen't compromise your steering components and brake pipes. I've raised a couple of Subarus and although they have more suspension travel than Mk1s I still had to be careful

that suspension in the red mk1 is raised. Modified rear beam and LOOOONG front springs. it also happens to be that I have no use for it!

The lugs where the shocks connect to the rear beam have been modified to increase the distance between the rear beam and chassis.
if you want me to take pics of this then let me know
