Have it ceramic coated. Better option than all of those...

With a commitment to quality and innovation, High Performance Coatings enhances the performance and reliability of surfaces so they can thrive in the toughest environments. Specialised engine coatings mean more power, less fuel consumption and longer engine life.

It's actually not very expensive - far cheaper than good chrome plating - but either way, that VHT paint is ok if you clean the surface really well. I ran my old car for two years with some of that and it never peeled

I think silver and most shades of grey look great. That's what I've done with mine for the time being. At the end of the day, if you want to drive the car properly, there's no point chroming or polishing too much because it's impossible to maintain - the belts spit crap everwhere; letalone all the road crud spraying up up. A few touches of gold look good too.

Here's some old pics of my little bus in progress:

Just spray it from a can - saves all the clean up process and it's only a small area anyway. You can buy hi-temp engine and exhaust enamel primer; I've only used it when spraying over bare metal, though.

cool will do. i agree it is only a small area. will go and get a can of both primer and paint soonish. still trying to decide on the colour im kind of leaning toward gunmetal grey kind of things!! im also going to portmatch my inlet and exhaust manifold before putting them on.

Dont bother with primer mate... Im currently spraying my car with Satin black and it doesnt need a primer. If your spraying with a spray can just sand it down with 100 grit paper and spray. Will come up fine.

Im sparying the hatch around the window black like the bonnet and I got some paint to try and spray some numbers on too ;D... I REALLY dont want to have to get vinyal stickers made up.

nah i like putting primer first, gets the surface ready for the final coat!
