When is euro Vi complusary on existing new vehicles
All dates listed in the tables refer to new type approvals. The EC Directives also specify a second date—usually one year later—which applies to first registration (entry into service) of existing, previously type-approved vehicle models.
Sorry, I should have stated regs for Australia as manufacturers can still sell EuroV engined vehicles because we lag behind. What I was trying to "guesstimate" was the time where VW will be forced to sell EuroVI tdi's in the Transporter (already in the Multivan) hopefully meaning the tdi450 will be offered in them as it would be unlikely they would only offer the lower powered EuroVI versions when the change must take place.
I would celebrate euro vi for its adoption of ad blue which I'm thinking will put less demand on the EGR valve and thus extend it's life.
The actual cost of the fluid is negligible AFAIK.
Mercs have had it for years because I assume they weren't into cheating.
EGR and DPF function are mutually exclusive in this instance mate, EGR functions to lower combustion temps and decrease NOX, at the expense of extra soot. Ad Blue / exhaust additives are about soot particulates, and reducing them down to near zero size. What I like about Euro Vi is the NOX and DPF cats after the turbo are as big as the engine, and of a very clever design, they have had to get very serious.

I thought it was NOx treatment downstream of the particulate filter.
Its the NOx that VW are forced to deal with rather than their cheat which was devised to avoid SCR fitment.
I wonder if anyone has tried getting rid of the EGR completely in favour of a more hardcore post-treatment system? That would be cool - go back to having no-gunk in the intake.
