  • Turbo Hissing ? Boost Leak Or More Serious ?

Hi guys i noticed today for the 1st time that when i get on the throttle that my turbo starts making a real distinct hissing sound and that the car is way down on power , sounds to me like it has a boost leak somewhere . What are the main reasons that cause boost leaks also are there any easy fixes or checks i can do myself ? The vehicle is a 2010 Mk5 Jetta with a 2.0 TDi EA189 engine fitted . Any help would be much appreciated .

Fashion a stethoscope and listen for the exact spot.....from the turbo.

My bet is any of the C-clips, most likely into or out of the intercooler down low. Drop the bottom engine shroud and have a look, they are notorious for leaking, even cause drama's at Porsche.

Probably blown some oil out too as a tell tale for you to find.

Thanks guys found the culprit , it was the bottom passenger side intercooler pipe which had some cracks in it from the battery leaking acid onto it . I managed to find another hose from the wreckers albeit from an Audi A3 which i made fit for the time being . Does anyone know if there is a aftermarket silicone hose kit or do i have to get a complete intercooler kit , or does anyone have a hookup for OEM parts ? Thanks again guys !

You can buy the individual hoses from VW.

Did you sort the battery out as well?

I rang a few VW dealerships & they all told me nil stock that part is on a order only basis which will take a few weeks to get & on top of that they were asking for drug money for it !!! Will sort the battery out tomorrow want to put a multimeter on it make sure that the alternator hasn't got a faulty reg & is over charging the battery .
