  • Is This The Beginning of the End For Diesel Cars??

MPs are calling on Chancellor George Osborne to consider a diesel scrappage scheme and introduce a nitrogen oxide-based vehicle excise duty (VED) in his Autumn Statement.

It comes in a report from the Environmental Audit Committee published in response to the Government's draft plans to improve air quality in the UK. The MPs believe a diesel scrappage scheme and including NOx alongside CO2 to determine VED bands will encourage drivers out of the most polluting diesel vehicles.

    Yes.
Go trade in your TDI and get a camry hybrid.
Its the best thing to do.
    My allroad is worthless now!

I'm just worried now that having a diesel all these years, will I go to hell? Probably.

In all honesty, I'd rather this discussion stay on whingepool, or some such. This forum isn't really the place for it.

Well realistically it is the place to discuss it, as many of us own diesels affected by this, but are not technically literate. I am rather p@#$%^ actually especially after getting a $2000 bill for a Tiguan EGR fix for a car that has done 120K in highway driving, which is probably part of the diesel shenanigans VW made to meet pollution requirements in the EU and elsewhere, knowing that they had built in problems down the line, but seemingly not caring. Have a look at the thread on EGR and if the guys there can point to so many problems in diesels, and potential solutions, why haven't VW seen this coming?

Seeing it comes from the country that makes hotels put signs on hot taps to say they are hot anything could happen. A link in the article also says they are going to have to paint all stationary speed cameras yellow as some are hard to see and its unfair on motorists F F S.

Dont speed and you wont need to worry If you can see it its too late anyway

Well, I'm over what "smart" people in politics are saying and planning to do.

Read this and more on this website and it will explain why are people behaving as they do. Including sticking their noses into the topics they know very little about.

Its really not the place. This forum is not for speculative spit balling in response to links posted to internet articles about what politicians say. That can happen in the General Section.

This forum is for technical problems, DIY's, diesel build threads and self education regarding how your car works.

If you want to complain about your EGR problems, the proper audience is VW. Not to put too finer point on it, but a car costing $2000 in repairs after 120,000km for any kind of fault should not be surprising or unexpected. It happens to everyone, all the time.
