  • New to Diesels

Hi all. I'm new to the world of diesels and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any media featuring a diesel car with a modified exhaust that sounds good. The only ones with an aftermarket exhaust I've found so far are sounding pretty agricultural. I'm hoping you guys will prove me wrong.

    Thanks

From what i have seen most people just do a muffler delete.

There is only so much you can do with a 4cyl diesel.

Just don't forget it is a diesel when refuelling. Accidentally using petrol can be a touch expensive

I'm the only one in the family who refuels it for this very reason. Better to be safe than sorry.

This article here describes the issue in the UK. Ouch !

Don't use that as a guarantee you won't do it. You just have to be distracted or have something else on your mind, and years of using petrol will see you inadvertently fill up with petrol.

You might want to look into mis-fuelling preventer devices to make absolutely sure. There are a few around, and less than the cost of a full tank.

Now that's a load of rubbish!

To the OP, what sort of car are you talking about, what year, does it have a DPF etc etc......

Greg is correct there's a lot you can do to a diesel in terms of performance plus there are so many other benefits to a diesel but exhaust note is not one of them - Getting a nice exhaust note from one is the hard part- If you're after a fantastic exhaust note then I would look elsewhere. There are lots of clips on you tube but really none of them are anywhere near as audibly exciting as a nice naturally aspirated engine.

If you want a better sound, then maybe the modern equivalent of the cigarette packet flipping against the spokes might be the go. This is a "sound generator" that some models have.

Its ok but doesn't compare to something like an R32 right?

                          My 3" exhaust.

Skoda Octavia vRS TDI Stock Exhaust Note - YouTube

                          After:
Skoda Octavia vRS TDI 3" Catback Exhaust Note - YouTube

It has a slight burble on the highway, too... And on full throttle accelleration (especially 2nd and 3rd gear) it sounds like a big V8... Only with 5L/100km economy!
                          I love it!

Resonator/muffler delete and a Varex to be installed... Soon

You actually left a muffler in ? get it outtttttttt

Ive just done my 3" mandrel bent exhaust from the DPF back .. cant wait for someone to come up with a solution (fingers crossed for deletion LOL) for it. Its a bit quieter than the stock exhaust with a muffler delete though .. especially on regen, but it has a nice note

I didn't know what the outcome would be like, and I've been planning a DPF delete from the start. No DPF - lots of noise!... I don't want to be one of those guys!
... And six months later I remembered that the Varex system existed. *facepalm!*

I agree, engine note on regen is the sexx.
