  • Liqui Moly DPF cleaner

Has anyone tried this liqui Moly DPF cleaner or heard whether its actually effective?

LIQUI MOLY - Motor Oils, Additives, Car Care - Economical cleaning with LIQUI MOLY instead of expensive replacement

I'm very skeptical whether it will actually work and not sure if I should even waste my money on it.

BWA use it and they have told me it's gets it back to 0.

That said, they pull the DPF out, run it through properly and then gerni it out for a while.

So it's obviously not a one size fits all, but part of a solution.

If you thinking about the DIY, you need a quite expensive applicator for it as well, so for one of, you're better of to put money towards a new DPF or let someone else to do it. In the mean time, using Morey's Diesel Smoke killer every time you fill up should extend the life of the DPF.

I read the press statement and it seems as though, Liqui Moly have designed this liquid to be done at every major service, rather than at EOL of the DPF to resurrect it.

Apparently liqui Moly have a new product out that you add to your fuel tank that somehow chemically lowers the soot burn off temperature in your DPF by approximately 100 degrees so apparently your passive regenerations will be more effective. Not sure what its called but my mechanic has recommended it and I'll get a can next week and try it and see how it goes.

It quite possibly has some Cerium in it (see this). Good for maintaining a DPF but won't remove ash.
PSA diesels use it in an additive called Eolys which has its own tank and is mixed into the fuel

^ what he said, helps burn the soot component down to zero quicker during a regen, great for inner city, short trip diesels, or anyone currently having dramas doing a proper regen.

Ash only comes out under reverse flush pressure, or about 2500 degrees in a kiln.

                  What is this product called?
I've tried so many additives to help lessen the regen or atleast help it finish quicker but none works.
I've tried DSK, Liquimoly and now I'm trying out cleen diesel by cleanenergy. Plus finally BPUltimate diesel is now avalaibe in Norwest which is close to home. Seems my regen occurs around every 300-400km or on half tank. And when it happens seems to catch me just when I am about to reach home. So I keep interrupting it until the Dpf light comes on then I'm off to the freeway again.

I would guess you either have a DPF approaching full of ash, or have an error that has put the car onto a set mile pattern for regens over awaiting till it is actually full of soot. Messing with the EGR system, and throwing an EGR CEL will do this sort of thing.

Cerium containing additives have made my DPF regen in half the time, a very obvious difference, you can watch it drop at a dramatic rate compared to normal on Vag Com.

Can you access Vag Com to check for errors / loading??

The product is called Liqui Moly Diesel Particulate Anti-clog. Hey if I can get 400kms between regens I'd be laughing. From what I understand 400kms is pretty normal - I believe its set to do a regen around the 400km mark regardless of how much soot buildup you have - mine is actually going into active regen every 80-100kms as its reaches that 30% threshold so quickly and just like you it always seem to come one 2 minutes from when I need to stop - I usually just don't stop and take it on an extended run to get the soot level down to an acceptable level which is nuisance! You should keep an eye on your oil level too - all that extra fuel being dumped into the engine during the regen process has a habit of making its way into the oil sump, essentially raising your oil levels and filling the sump with diesel - not good. I had to change my oil in under 5000kms because the level went over the maximum. Bloody DPF's - stupid idea.

                          Hey Poyta,

How can you tell yours is doing a regen do you get a light on the dash? Also a bit off topic when your driving around at about 1750 RPM can you feel the turbo kicking in and our like slight shutters for like a split second, but only very slight and only every now again again?

No light, that only comes on if I don't successfully regeneration and the soot level doesn't decrease. I can tell its about to go into an active regen when the car develops a bit of a rough idle that I can feel when its stationary at the lights and then within 1 to 2 kms the revs rise to 1000rpm, the exhaust note changes a bit and the induction noise dramatically increases. If I turn the engine off the radiator fans seem to keep going for bit too - classic signs of an active regeneration.

For your information, that Liquid Moly stuff isn't half bad - I used to go into active regeneration every 80-90 kms or so and it took about 15-20 kms of driving at high revs to clear but after adding that stuff I have managed to drive 300kms between regens and its only takes about 6 kms to clear it.

At new you get 800kms or so between regens. 400kms is the set figure if any sort of error puts your car onto a set milage cycle, like mine because of all the stuff I have removed lately. Regens are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, but the car does get a bit more jerky, the idel raises 200rpm to 1000, and the car will smell "hot". If you have an aftermarket intake or exhaust, you will hear it, and an oil temp gauge always gives it away as oil goes up 10-15 degrees.

There is a solution in the pipeline, and it's not the mythical high flow DPF, I've been busy.
