BP Ultimate Diesel is now in NSW

I remember when I tried to win my first argument on the internet. Bashing keys till I had carpel tunnel syndrome, not to mention the mild acquired brain injury from smashing my head on the desk a million times. Some people will argue till their hands fall and can't milk sausages. Fuel is fuel. You get crappy batches, you get good batches. Use what you want... Hell even fill up with premo 98, but don't think you can change the mindset of a VW driver.

Cool BP premium diesel is available. Will I rush out to fill my tank with it... No. If my car runs fine on the diesel I put in it and I get over 750km to a tank, im happy with that.

Sydney to Melbourne is predominantly down hill

Benno twas the Hume, so when heading into the Southern Highlands its an increase, passing that area by its downhill

And how many cars you overtook, and how many rest stops you took, and if you were going the solid cruise control the whole way, and if you were carrying the same weight and the wind, and the hills and everyone's version of 'Tank Empty' is completely different.

But seriously, it is not just the change in elevation, but the rate of change as this will see the accelerator being used more "aggressively" by the cruise control.

Ultimately fuel consumption comes down to the calorific value of the fuel (which changes very little if at all), and the efficiency of the fuel burn. Both are not so significantly different from each other with most blends tackling other issues like fungal growth, foaming, and injector 'cleaning". Then there is road condition, wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity and the like that will alter the fuel consumption you see.

In the end it is generally a personal preference based on convenience and perception.

When I bought my Caddy Maxi Life, I specifically asked the dealer if there was any preferred or recommended fuel by the dealer or VW, and the clear answer came back as NO.

I still get a better fuel economy and performance from the BP diesel than Caltex or any other in my area. I wouldn't expect that the sales person would know much about the fuels.

I've tried Caltex Vortex in my T5 (non DPF) for over approx. 3 months period and went back to BP, the saving wasn't there (even with the 8c/L or more discount).

...and there is also the DPF in diesel cars as well that you need to think about, so I definitelly stick with the BP only, because with the 3 cars with the DPF and over 100,000km travelled we have no problem with the DPF. The last time I've checked the DPF in our Touareg, I can say that it will easily last far beyond 250k km.

How is my information at all flawed? I'm not using flawed anecdotal evidence, I'm using common sense and common sense says that external factors outside of this "premium" fuel have a bigger impact to fuel consumption rates.

I'm saying that everyone who is attributing getting those "few" more k's are wrongly attributing it to the fuel.
