help wrong oil in TDI

    Hillbilly as I said it was VW approved 5w/30 ,I would not of used it if it wasn't
    I'm sure the Shell Ultra is not approved ?

      Please read what I said in my reply to your photo post. What you messaged to me appears to be not what you meant and thats why I replied as I did. You said you bought HELIX ULTRA when you actually bought HELIX ULTRA EXTRA. Typo or whatever it gave the wrong impression and I was concerned that you had got it wrong. You should also replace the filter when you change it for the reasons given earlier in this thread by other posters

        VW does not specify or recommend any particular viscosity grade for their engines.

        The only requirement is that any product you use must be of the correct VW engine oil standard that's specified for the vehicle.

        Refer to my earlier post to determine which VW engine oil standard is required for your vehicle.

        Regarding Shell lubricants:

        Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 has 502.00/505.00 approval.

        Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 has 504.00/507.00 approval.
