yeah but honestly, you can have issues that cause excessive smoke, its not just hte engine type either. PD engines are also very clean, when maintained well and run on good fuel.

OP - do as transporter has suggested - get some additive and use as directed. Also, run the car to at least 1/4 tank and re-fill it with diesel from a busy servo, with caltex vortex premium diesel or BP diesel.

How many km on the car? If it has had the timing belt changed, its possible the timing is not optimal. Retarded timing for the cam will cause excessive smoke and lack of torque at lower rpm.

Get the workshop you had scan the car to log manifold boost in 3rd or 4th gear from 1500-3500rpm. You should see at least 1 bar between these rpm, consistently. Low boost will cause extra soot.

try all these things before you start paying for random replacements of emission system parts.

Also, its incredibly unlikely you'll have a headgasket problem.

Sorry I was using my phone to reply lol. *fat fingers*
Anyway I changed the oil of the car because I thought I was using the wrong
Ones, what I was using before was penrite 0-30w enviro+ and the new engine oil I'm.using now is liqui-moly 5-30w 4200. Everything runs fine now. I also bought the fuel additive but yet to put it in because I wanted to see what happens when I changed the oil.

where did you buy liqui-moly engine oil?????

0w-30 is pretty darned light oil.... but at 120,000km I would have thought it would be OK. perhaps it was close to the end of the service interval?

I have been using penrite for donkeys years and I swear by it, but I've never used that one (dont have a dpf car) I do use the enviro plus 5w-30 VW507 in my Skoda.

They're both the same specs oils and will perform the same, some chose to save $5.00
Penrite Enviro+5W30 is made somewhere in Europe and it has the same aroma, if you smell it as LiquiMoly. The rest of 507.00 oils I had oportunity to use had the same aroma (like a parfume, nice).

I think it's a bit of a coincidence, but as long as the problem is gone, I suppose it doesn't matter that much.

Was it overfilled before the oil change (so that there was excessive oil entering from the breather when the crankcase pressure was increased by the ring blowby when under load)?

Then it would be coincidence on the oil brand change but not the oil change itself!

I think you'll find that it's mostly modified engines that smoke. The easiest way to get increased power from a diesel is to pump more fuel in, not all of which gets burnt (smoke).

My chipped tdi smokes a bit but the power and torque increase is worth it!

Even a standard car when floored at night with some headlights close behind will probably show up some smoke.
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

What knaanage said, I overfilled it by a bit? It was just over the Max sign. Do u think that might have caused the smoke? Also there's no more smell means no more complaining missus lol. Loving the car right now! Can't wait for summer to fully drive with windows down and sunroof! Also what are some cheap modifications I can do to my car to get it light? Car feels very heavy I wanna make it lighter than it is lol

When I bought mine, it had been serviced by the non VW dealership prior to delivery. It smoked like mad. Diesel injection specialist (Highway Diesel) took it for the day and found it had the wrong engine oil, changed it and all was good. Unit Injection (PD) systems are apparently very sensitive to oil.
