  • MK5 TDI Idling high

Hi all. Was wondering if some people on this forum may be able to help me out. I drive a MK5 golf TDI 2lt with BKD engine and a couple of weeks ago it has started to idle higher than usual. It now idles at around 980rpm when usually it was around 800. Does anyone know what might be wrong or point me in the right direction?

    Regards

    Simon

My understanding. This is a micro regeneration for the DPF filter (as advised by VW at a service).
Usally a dash warnig comes up for a major regen but you can also get minor regens.
Idles at about/under 1000 RPM and then will return to normal in a short time.

I thought only the sport diesel had a DPF and didn't think the BKD had one. Mines got the 104kw engine. Where can I look to see if it has a DPF?

You have no DPF in yours. How many kms have you done?

The first step is to get it scanned with VCDS or similar. The fastest and usually the most economical way is to have a mechanic look at it. Jmac is your good option, he has a lot of experience. It's hard to diagnose the car over the internet.

OOPs, you guys are correct. Got DPF on my mind at the moment, with my issues.
This car should not have a DPF!

Just some extra information. The car still drives ok with no lack of power and still great fuel economy, it just idles high for some reason? Could it be the EGR dirty and sticking maybe?

Yep, pretty likely. My TDI idles high from time to time without doing a regen, but I have messed with the engine so much, it could be anything. It is never an issue, but I your case I would put it down to the EGR, causes a lot of weird problems, gums up flaps, have you ever spray cleaned it out with intake cleaner?

i had this problem, scanned it and it was the intake manifold flap. replaced it with a new one from the uk $300 not $800 that local vw wanted to charge. and haven't had a problem since.

Caused by EGR/ blowby buildup. Shame you have decided to remove the Provent, will happen again eventually!

the egr and manifold flap have always been clean in my car, egr is coded out by revo, and the engine has little blowby. my manifold flap failed internally, a gear slipped and threaded itself. the intake manifold has never been cleaned and is virtually spotless too.

Ahh coding out the EGR was a good move. As you dont have a DPF you can get by without a Provent, I'll leave you alone. I am getting Viezu to code down the EGR in any diesel tunes I do.
