  • Fuel consumption after injectors replacement

Hi and Happy new year to all
Original injectors failed in early October and since new injectors were fitted I've noticed that fuel consumption has gone up and on board computer has become very inaccurate, according to computer it's gone down to around 7l per 100km but I can only do around 750km with full tank and with old injectors i used to get up to 900km. Another thing I've noticed is that DPF regeneration happens more frequently , almost daily, and it used to do it around 3 times a week. Today i did around 250km freeway driving and when i came off FW after about 10km it regenerated it again(pretty sure it shouldn't have after freeway driving). I spoke to the dealer and he assured me that they did what they do with every car,fit new injectors and no other setup is necessary and that DPF regeneration is automatic and that it depends on fuel quality and driving style(i changed both with no change).
Has anyone come across this with their cars or does anyone have any suggestions or could it be that something was left unplugged , any help/advice appreciated.

    What was the consumption prior?

Obviously a new vehicle with newer technology, but does daily DPF regeneration sound right? I haven't noticed mine light up once in 4500km, which includes a lot of 10km commutes to and from work.

Does it help that I tend to drive in manual mode, run past 2k (or more) on each gear change, and don't "cruise" below 1400rpm?

The light on the dash doesn't come on unless there is a need for you to drive it harder for a bit to clear the soot, there will still be regenerations happening but you probably haven't noticed. I didn't realise this before and thought my car was playing up.

When its doing the regens you might notice the gearbox will hold gears for longer and the engine will idle higher (mine goes from 800 to 1000).

          Hi all,
No the DPF light never comes on, as Jazd said, it hold gears for longer and revs jump from 800 to 1000. Fuel consumption with original injectors was between 7.5 to 8.2 l per 100 km and that's driving from Southwest Sydney to northern beaches daily, around 42 km each way and now it is 1l higher and fuel calculations are way off. Today I've filled up and on the MFD it was showing 6.9 and real consumption was 7.8 with about 400km of highway driving, before injector failure MFD calculation was almost spot on maybe 0.2 of a difference. To me it looks like it is running a bit rich which creates more soot and that's why it's regenerating more often than usually but as the dealer said all it needed was injector replacement no other adjustment was necessary i don't really now what to do .
Does anyone knows what sort of work is done when they replace injectors or does it need any other adjustments as i just don't trust this dealer(every time they did some work on it the car had to go back, last time they stuffed rocker cover and there was a major oil leak)

The DPF regens by themselves will cause higher fuel consumption but it sounds like you have bigger issues.

I just remembered from when I made the VCDS label file for your engine there is an adaptation for the injectors.

            A082,0,Injector (Cylinder 1)
            A082,1,Engine Speed,(G2
            A082,5,Injector (Cylinder 1)
A082,6,After the change of an injector this must be adapted to the engine control unit.
A082,7,To avoid driving defects this should only happen when replacing an injector!
            A082,8,
A082,9,To adjust the new injector store the value "0"
A082,10,and then turn off the ignition for at least 30 seconds.

There is one of these for each cylinder. Its possible your dealership hasn't done the adaption after replacing the injectors.

Someone with VCDS and the label file could do this for you.

              hi,

              Thanks jazd,
The Dealer said that all it need was injectors replacement and no other setting was required, I'll get in touch with them tomorrow .

He was trying to say that they've done the coding but when i mentioned what you wrote in your previous post he went quite and said that he'll investigate and let me know..
Increased consumption , regenerates more often and very inaccurate fuel consumption figures since new injectors were fitted, they must have missed something

                    Hi
my car's been back to dealer who did injectors and they said nothing wrong with the car , after talking to them they suggested to look at the fuel filter as it hasn't been replaced since i own the car (around 55000km), so went and bought a new filter and since then DPF regeneration happens two or three times a week which is much better then before, but I'm still having problems with fuel consumption and inaccuracy of fuel figures on MFD(long term consumption shows 7.4 and actual is 8.4 had around 250 km freeway driving). Does anyone knows is there anything that can be done to get computer to accurately read and calculate fuel consumption and what else can cause higher fuel consumption(air and fuel filters replaced).

Why don’t you try independent VW workshop in your area? It shouldn't be that expensive. I understand that you had the injectors replaced under the warranty for free, but going to the dealer for nothing (not to get the problem resolved) would annoy me.
Think about the negative effect on the DPF as well.
