    hi
    i have and issue with my multivan, i was driving on a highway and all of a sudden there was no power no acceleration. the engine would idle but no power.
    i toll the van to my local mechanic, he change the fuel filter and look around but he could not find the issue.
    so i toll the van to the vw dealer and the dealer pull the engine apart.
    here is the report from the dealer.

    * no power stalling
    * DPF filter blocked and cause lack of oil to head, lifter stuck and damage to camshaft and bearings.
    * requires new camshaft and bearings (related gasket and seals) DPF filter. quote approx $8995, this invoice is for dismantling to find issue with low compression in cylinder 5. incorrect oil used at my local mechanic.
    the van had alway service at vw dealer until the last two service. i had the van service at my local mechanic because the warranty ran out on the van, it have 130,000km on the clock. the oil that my mechanic use is ELF lubricants solaris LLX 5w-30, 504/507 standard.

    the dealer think it the oil is the cause of the engine damage.

    my question is, can the oil block the DPF and cause all these damage in the engine.

    The DPF filter is in the exhaust.

    In reality, you have two problems; the first being the internal damage to the engine, and the second being the blocked DPF. The blocked DPF could be caused by incorrect oil (and overfilling), but the jammed lifter is a whole other story. I highly doubt incorrect oil would cause this in this case. I've seen these engines go for 60,000klms without servicing, and not have any problems.

      thank you for your reply.
      I have spoke to the local mechanic about the oil issue and he said the ELF lubricants Solaris LLX 5w-30 is 504/507 meets all VW standards; therefore he was not at the fault. He said that he have used the same in many VW cars and vans over the years and never had any problem with it.
      I have only used this oil on the last two services. The first 100,000 km was always done at VW dealer.
      Have anyone used this oil before and had a problem with the engine?

        IMO, both problems are caused by incorrect oil being used. There are 2 ELF Solaris oils for VW, one is LSX 5W30 and is approved for VW505.01 only (not suitable for your engine), the Solaris LLX 5W30 is VW507.00 approved.

        My questions are; Do you own the van from new? What's the exact production date of your T5?
        Yes, the earlier T5 had 50,000km/2 years oil change under ideal conditions (for the short time only), who knows what made VW to change their mind and go back to shorter servicing intervals? However, will the water pump last 50,000km ? Coolant in oil is the killer for the diesel engine, especially if the pump would leak and you have done tens of thousands of kms on the oil already.

          also i dont know why the DPF is block, because i was coming back from my friends place. he living about 350 km from me. i drove to he place and stay there for three day. then i drove home and with in 60 km away from my home the van block down. its was driving find before then. i though the best way to unblock the DPF is to drive it long distance.

          please advise
