  • 2l 103kw tdi, high idle

    hey guys,
my tdi has started idling high at about 950rpm,
when it used to sit around 750
im due for an air filter and oil change soon, air filter looks a bit grubby, could that contribute to it? oil and fuel filter were done about 7k ago.

Pull off a boost hose near the inlet and have a look at how much oil is in there... might be running on the oil mist.

Also, are you sure the correct oil was used? Its possible sub standard oil could have degraded enough in that time to mist up easily.

I'm assuming that we're talking when the car is at running temp?

Also, weathers hot, and if you have the a/c on the ECU will make the idle a bit faster to help the generator cope with the extra load of the radiator fans and the engine cope with the compressor load.

I noticed mine idling about 20-30rpm quicker the other day, that might have been it for me. I wouldn't think the air con would cause 200rpm increase though.

Most cars I've owned usually increase idle revs by about 200 rpm when the air con is switched on.

yeah sorry I'm not talking about the inlet gunk, I'm talking about vapour and mist.

ah okay. I'm thinking ill do an early change ( only 1500 early ) and air filter because its a bit grubby and see if that works. otherwise maybe off to the old mechanic

where is this hose that i need to pull of, is it once of the ones what ill be pulling off to fit a pro vent? on top of the plastic tappet cover ?

i think it was the oil though, i can't remember but i think i used a slightly thicker oil last time, probably best to get rid of it.

no, i mean a boost hose. easiest one to remove is where it connects to the inlet manifold, it should just be retained by a spring clip that you slide out, then you can pull the end of the rubber hose away from the manifold....

ok oil is changed, pulled some boost hoses off and their was a bit of residue lining the hoses but i understand this is normal. now that the crappy oil is gone will the system eventually clear it away? or is their some maintenance I'm going to need to do?
