After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.
Thanks mate. What do you reckon is the best place to put the hoses in? I'm thinking at the initial 90 bends, and how do you undo those clips? I'm a little weary, as this is the first car I've had that has so much bloody plastic on the engine. I am scared of being hamfisted and breaking things if I just try and do it by trial and error.
Clips have a squeeze ring, just squeeze them on both sides where the grip is. I reused these clips by removing the stock plastic pipe, best done with boiling water to soften it. Getting new cups from anyone but VW is impossible, I've been trying to hunt them down for some time now. Just remember to go from the engine cover, to the Provent inlet, then back out to the intake. Run the drain down below the car with a decent length, and you can get a perfect plastic tap for the end of it from any hardware in the irrigation sprinkler section, cost me a few dollars. Drain every several thou.

I just got the Provent yesterday and planning the attack now.
Can I ask what hose you used Shortbus?
Greg, you gave me an idea when you mentioned the irrigation tap - I wonder how the black irriagtion pipe would work. I know it comes in 25mm, and there are two qualities - I think one is high pressure. I've got a heap of it at home and thought might be worth trying. The stuff I've got is the high pressure and doesn't soften in heat like the other does, so that shouldn't be a concern. The stock hose just looks and feels like a bit of cheap plastic, but probably not.
Sounds like it's worth a try, but the killer is 1" / 25mm hose is just friggen huge, and the beauty of running 3/4" / 19mm is that it flows nicely - the inner dimension is virtually the same as the inner of the Provent inlet / outlet, but it looks a lot more "normal". That's where 3/4" silicon or soft hose is awesome, as it stretches over the 1" barbs on the Provent, you'll blow a valve trying to get 3/4" rubber heater hose over them! A good alternative is 3/4" rubber el cheapo hose with two bits of 1" to adapt for the Provent, and glued or loctite together. See pic below.
Silicon hose eventually sweats oil though, and I've yet to find the perfect stuff. My latest trial black stuff has finally started to sweat, but I'm leaving it in, for you can't tell unless you touch it and you find it's a bit slimey. I'm just cleaning it every so often now, and the hunt for the perfect hose continues....
