    Buy one!

Get one asap and keep it over there for 1 year. After that you can bring it over with you and avoid all of the problems

dont bother... just bring an engine and drivetrain over from a new and wrecked gt diesel mk5 125kw. MUCH cheaper and easier that way i reckon... if you're stuck on a diesel.

As far as I'm aware mate, the MK4 Golf diesel was only sold in very small numbers in Australia and was only avaliable as a 5dr hatch. I'm not even sure how long they were sold here for, but I have a feeling it wasn't for very long. And yes, you could get MK4 3dr and 5dr Golf petrol hatches too.

The Vento sedan was only sold in petrol form.

            Mk4 came here in 1998-2005

As far as I know no Mk4 diesels were imported by the local distrubutor at the time.

All Golf mk4 bar the R32 came in 4dr

The Mk3 GL TDI was imported here though not sure on what years they came but its along the lines of 1994-1996/97 ???

i had a reply from an importer saying that the mk4's (petrol) were sold in aus in "full volume" therefore not allowing any other models' wether it be diesel, petrol or whatever. its still undiscovered territory i think....but thanks for this info. when u put the car up against the sevs criteria it sorta does make 2 out of the 4.

importing a drivetrain is an option but dear when considering u can get 01/02diesels for 8000-10000 aus with low k's.

so the mk4's were imported from day 1 of manufacture to last day of manufacture???

you have NO chance importing a car that was manufactured 1989 or later if it was sold mainstream here (which the mk4 most certainly was) unless you've owned it for a year or more overseas. sorry to burst the bubble...

there is a thread regarding this on this forum (about 100 pages long worth of debate haha)

BUT considering you can get mk4's from auction fairly cheaply priced (will be a 5dr though) i reckon you could build yourself an mk4 diesel with imported parts for under 15k. just a bit of research to the right model to use i would guess. then again im just speculating

                some things to drool over?

has anyone tried then.....it may be worth the 50 bucks to apply rather then debating the issue... any takers??
                  hahaha

thanks again for the info ppl
