  • ForceFed's Project TDI

    Hi all fellow Dubbers.

I was sitting at home quite bored so I decided to start a build thread on my latest purchase, a Candy White 2007 Golf 2.0 TDI DSG.
I am planning on doing a few tasteful mods to the car, to add to its current appearance and also to the overall performance of the little oiler.

So I was really enthused about moving over to the European market coming from various JDM cars such as my previous two rides a MY07 Subaru WRX STi and MY07 Subaru Liberty 3.0R Spec.B. The Subaru's were fantastic and very fun to drive but would most definitely hurt the wallet at the petrol pump hence the change to the much more economical yet still powerful diesel.

The car came with the wheels which are 19" Advanti Concepts and 4 brand new tyres on purchase. I was really unsure as to whether i liked or disliked the wheels however I have decided to keep them for the time being. May change my mind later down the track.

Next step was to lower the car because it looked absolutely hideous at the height it was at. After countless nights of research i settled on purchasing some H&R Race Springs (50mm drop) just as another member on this forum did (Poyta) for his GT.

Ride is quite a bit firmer but the look and stance of the car is now fantastic.

    Much Better

Nice, glad you and Poyta are doing some build threads, the diesel section has been pretty quiet!

Cheers Greg. Got a few more touches to put on before I'm finished.

Wasn't really happy with the side profile of the car, seemed really rounded so I quickly decided to put on some GTI side skirts to give the car a more aggressive appearance.

Sounds familiar Although I left my skirts the textured black finish I think in your case on a white car they should be painted to colour code. The black texture works on my car because my car is black but on your white car they really stand out. Just an opinion.
Maybe while you're at it colour code the rear bar ( you can have my old one if you want ), side and front protective strips and the door handles.

Thanks for your offer and comments Poyta. I'm actually liking the contrast in colours and the theme of my car is black and white. I guess its a matter of personal opinion/taste but at the moment i'm really enjoying all the textured bits. I had this look on my STi also with the side skirts and rear canards. Looks quite race.

Next on the kit-list is the ECUDataScan. A must for anyone wanting to monitor a car's data in real-time. This device plugs into your OBDII port under the dash. I guess it's a smaller alternative to VAG-COM and laptop (although you can't do the coding side of things) . Among many other useful features such as the ability to scan and clear error codes, this device also doubles as a SatNav/GPS/Lap Timer. I used this unit on both previous cars and it costs around $499. Worth every penny.

                  For more information go to

mmmm...I like that it checks your performance data, 0-100 and quarter mile. Might have to see if I can borrow it off you so I do some tests.

Yeah cool. Only problem with 1/4 mile and 0-100 if you break traction readings will not be accurate. It's not like a G-Tech in that respect.

And now onto a performance/driveability mod. Looky-looky, what do we have here?

                        SPRINT BOOSTER

                        Before Installation

What is a Sprint Booster? Well in a nutshell it's a piece of plastic that plugs into your accelerator pedal connector behind the accelerator pedal itself.

At first I must admit that I was a bit skeptical but I purchased it anyway.

Yeah, but what does it do? It turns your car into the beast that it should be. It does this by increasing your cars throttle responsiveness by reducing the DriveByWire (DBW) delay, and boy what a good job it does.

It will NOT make your car faster but it will make it an absolute pleasure to drive. It almost feels like your car has been tuned when it really hasn't. Don't know why Volkswagen wouldn't have the car performing like this straight out of the factory?

More information can be found here Sprint Booster

I'm not going to post installation pics because installation is that easy it's a joke. PLUG AND PLAY HARD.

IMHO, this has been the best bang for buck mod to date. But don't take my word for it. Another member from the "other" Volkswagen forum said:

Not having a Sprint Booster is like chopping off your right foot. Agreed.

Another member named it the Evil Black Plastic. Also agree.

Don't have one? For F*#K sake, buy it, plug it in and enjoy!!!

                            Now for some wank factor....

I was intending on going down the APR path with their carbon induction system like so many others have done, however I had completely forgotten that I had a BMC CDA (Carbon Dynamic Airbox) laying around which I had taken out of my Liberty when I first purchased it.

The BMC CDA is very similar to the modshack in design but has the added bonus of some carbon goodness. Also it's worth twice the price of the modshack and roughly the same price as the APR intake.

Performance gains? Probably nothing gained however there is an increase in the induction noise and also the wastegate is now more audible. Some people have noticed turbo spooling earlier but I can't really say that I've noticed this at all.

Street Cred? Definitely looks the part in the engine bay. +++

Installation? Install was quite straight forward. Obviously the stock airbox had to be completely removed. The only modification you need is to drill a hole for the vacuum hose in between the MAF and intake and stick an irrigation spike into the piece of hose. This unit comes with a mounting bracket, so you will need to find a suitable position to attach it to. I opted to use one of the mount points from where the standard airbox was attached.

Cool, did you manage to get a nice seal between that rubber hose in front of the airbox and the air-inlet in the grille? I seem to recall that Greg had to make something up for that which he did with Carbon Fibre.
