  • High Pressure Fuel Pump Failures

There's a lot of talk in the US at the moment about HPFP failures on diesel Golfs due to lack of lubricant in the fuel

CR High Pressure Fuel Pump "HPFP" failure FAQ - Updated 2/8/2011 - TDIClub Forums

Have there been many cases of these failures in Australia?

It's been discussed as a side issue in the PD injector failure thread.

Bluegrass's theory on the failure mode is very convincing and while lack of lubricity is almost certainly a contributing factor, the basic design with the piston being free to rotate looks flawed.

US fuel has a lower lubricity (higher scar rating) than ours but I still think additional lubricity can only help.

I've wondered this also. I haven't heard much?

It's certainly related to the quality of US diesel in my opinion, the low sulphur content was one reason that it took so long for many euro diesel cars to be introduced in the US.
