Hi,
So after taking my newly purchased 2005 golf 2.0 tdi down to thedbo this weekend I had a look at the engine bay to fill the coolant levels. I've noticed the back of the radiator has a fairly thick layer of black oil on it. This was picked up in the pre sales examination I had done, but the mechanic couldn't see where it was coming from. I'm guessing its a fine spray of a leak and after a 5 hour drive its made its mark on the engine side of the radiator.
The strange thing is that there's a pipe that sits between the front of the engine (in front of the alternator) and the rad, and that's clean, so if the leak is coming from the head gasket I would've thought the pipe would be covered in oil as well as the rad is.
The oil level is about 3mm over the max level (the higher bobble on the dip stick)
