I just watched a show on Land Line where a company called LINC is producing Synthetic Diesel they used a VW diesel and drove from QLD to Perth using their own Synthetic fuel.

Yeah as prices start to get silly we will see more and more of this, a lot of people experimenting in the USofA with various things to use as the base. Thanks for the link, most interesting!

No matter how much of that fuel we would have, we would be still paying the world's prices at the pump, the only difference will be that somebody will get very rich, from it (no need to buy the crude from the Arabs).

The only thing new here is using this in Australia - the South Africans have been producing liquid fuel with the Fischer-Tropsch method for decades and th Germans developed it during World War II when most of their crude oil supplies got cut off.
I remember studying the South African plant in 1985 during Uni and thinking "That's got to be useful for us one day..."

A South African told me that the Sasol distillate needs sulfur to be added to get the level up to 50ppm
