Roadworthy Inspections NSW/QLD

I've recently purchased a 12/08 TDI Pacific GOLF from NSW that came with a pink slip. I've now transported the car to QLD and have tried to get it registered and they are saying the car isn't roadworthy due to a bad shocky and 2x unroadworthy tyres. The car comes with a 3 month/5000km warranty. I rang the place I purchased from to enquire about a claim under warranty and they said it's not covered as they are wear and tear items and they sold the car in NSW in roadworthy condition.

Does anyone know the differences between the requirements for roadworthy in NSW and QLD?

Does anyone have any recommendations about where to from here as I think I've been taken for a ride. I now have to find a rear shocky and 2 brand new tyres that I was told were roadworthy.

When the car goes 'over the pits' (blue slip in NSW) the regulations are much stricter than when you get a pink slip. In all honesty a 'pink slip' is hardly anything to do with being road worthy, they *might* check the tires have enough tread (they should...), but they will only complain about parts leaking oil onto the ground and/or obviously failed parts like the car bouncing around all over the road, then they'd say you need to get them replaced.

While it's a pain, you really needed to do a NRMA check to make sure the car is OK.

If it has low KM and has always been serviced at VW then you may get away with a warranty claim as it should still be in new car warranty (??)...

Otherwise there's not much you can do other than get them replaced unfortunately!

The car came with a State Roads inspection which did indicate that the front tyres were close to limits and that the rear shock had a minor weap however, it was indicated that it was still roadworthy.

I've never lived in NSW so I am unaware of the differences between 'pink' and 'blue' slips. The way it was explained to me BEFORE I purchased the car was the 'pink' slip is the roadworthy certificate required to get the car registered and that it had a 'pink' slip.

I'm annoyed as I believe it has been sold under false pretense, indicating the car was still road worthy however, it did have some wear and tear, which I was happy to accept. What I wasn't happy to accept is a shock that has far more than a minor weap and tyres that are well beyond legal limit. Both of which are major fail points here in QLD for the roadworthy.

Does anyone happen to know the exact requirements to meet roadworthy in NSW? As far as I'm aware the tyre wear limit is the same nation wide at 1.5mm but I'm not aware of requirements with shock absorbers. Anyone able to shed some light?

The consumer magasine Choice are always interested in this sort of thing. If you are a member I think you get free legal advice too.

Get 2 new tyres and 2 new shocks. You'd have to eventually anyway, why not now?

There's no way I'd put that kind of faith in a salespersons advice about the condition of a car that you're buying sight unseen. Its the nature of the business and I've heard and seen much worse than you've described. I sympathise that you've received something that you didn't expect but if 2 tyres and shocks is the worst you have to deal with then I reckon thats pretty good.

Tell the salesperson that you will be pursuing this avenue if they don't agree to pay replacement costs (if indeed the tyres are not legal).

I've bought interstate vehicles sight unseen before also, buyer beware and all but I wouldn't put up with this crap if I had been told that teh car is in roadworthy condition.
