I am told the injectors on my 1.5 diesel Golf need an overhaul, which will cots about 80-100 dollars. My question is how much are they new, what is the part number?

New injectors for 1.5 diesel

Is your price for rebuild of each or the whole set?
I dont know the part number.
Price for new ones varies widely... and so does the quality. Worse still, its not all the time that those things go together. The only way to get a price on a real one is to ring up your local BOSCH distributor and ask them.
VW Volkswagen Diesel TDI Injector Pump Nozzle Fuel Filter Glow Plug Gauge Timing Tool Bosch Injection VNT Turbocharger Head Gasket M-TDI MTDI Golf Jetta 1.6 1.9 sells new ones for pretty reasonable prices, but i dont know what they are like. I guess they would be OK, since the nozzles he sells are just fine.
Finally, who told you they need an overhaul, and why?'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

Thanks for your reply. The overhaul price is for each injector! (which is wht got me thiking about whole new ones with the Aussie dollar so high!)
My mechanic has told me they need doing, we have just put a secondhand head on the motor and although it starts well and goes, once it gets into third gear in has no power at all and so you soon have to change back down. Knowing only a little about engines I thought it was low compression, but this is his diagnosis.Mk3 Golf Tdi about to sell

Before you go chasing injectors, make sure you time the injector pump correctly. The only way to do it properly is with the dial indicator in the back of the pump. If you have had the head off, then the injector timing can certainly be off.
Do you have a Haynes for your GLD? If not, I can scan the section about setting the pump timing correctly for you.
The dieselvw website sells a timing kit which is good value.
Just trying to save you some money
PS- also, did you use the correct thickness head gasket on reassembly?'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

Thanks again, yes the correct thickness gasket was used, I shall ask about the injector pump though, seems like a good place to start. I do not have the Haynes, only the Gregory's manual.Mk3 Golf Tdi about to sell

I would start with the injector pump.
I have owned 1.5D's with poor compression and they still run fine - sometimes with even more power than normal (they burn sump oil quite well). Usually poor compression will manifest as rough hot running and/or poor cold starting on these engines.
If the injectors are old/worn, typically the breaking pressure will be reduced slightly. This is not usually a problem, unless it goes really out of spec. The spray can become bad, but with the pintle design and the VW swirl chamber, even injectors with poor spray patterns will still work OK (though may give poor fuel economy). A nice easy way to see if the injector might be dripping or spraying bady is to remove the glow plug on that cylinder and inspect it for pitting or evidence that it has melted/sagged due to heat. Its not conclusive, but can give you an idea.
On the other hand, the 1.5 is very sensitive to static timing change. The stock timing setting was revised around 1981 to give more advance, which improves power and economy a little. These engines tend to perform poorly and produce lots of light coloured smoke, and difficult cold starting with retarded timing.
Do you know how many km's on your GLD?'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

Thanks again, will talk to the mechanic, I have no idea how many kms on the car, or even the history before I got it (and as it is not here, I can't even go and see what the odo says.Mk3 Golf Tdi about to sell

Volkwapart have e-mailed to say that they are not sure whether the injectors they sell for the 1.6 are suitable for the 1.5
VW $24 New VW 1.6 Normally Aspirated (NA) Injector. 135 Bar Injector. Complete Volkswagen
They have two listed, a 155 bar and a 135 bar, can anyone tell me the correct part number, they are $24 each which is so much less than my reconditioning price!Mk3 Golf Tdi about to sell

155 bar is turbo, 135 bar is NA. THe nozzles are the same, only the break pressure is different. This is set when the new nozzles are installed in the injector bodiesBeige 79 Mk1 GLD White 76 Mk1 LS 3 door
