I took the new diesel on a 30km run today. It went like a dream.

The cold starts are still taking quite a bit. I'm glowing for 20 seconds, then i have to turn it over for a good ten seconds before it kicks, then it takes a little rough running to make it run well.

Is this still air in the system?

The return line slowly flowing back into the injector pump(after switching off) is still confusing me too.... i can't imagine where the fuel is going to.. It is flowing to a level below the fuel filter as well, so it is not just returning into thefuel filter (as would be exoected through the need to equalise pressure)..

    Not sure..

      Glow plug relay

Because you're glowing without a relay, you're missing out on one or two important features that it provides.

Firstly, it "measures" how warm the engine is and glows appropriately. Secondly, it continues to provide glow when cranking. Thirdly, it keeps glowing (depending on engine temp.) when the engine catches and until it's firing evenly. Having a push button gives you none of these things, but if you understand how the relay works then you may be able to do its job manually. I have a push button on my horrible Toyota and I glow but keep the button pushed in until it's firing evenly.

Remember to that the rings will not be bedded and this will reduce compression. I think that you'll find that things will improve as they bed in.

It sounds to me like you still have air. The best way to check this is to replace the hose from the incoming fuel line to the filter banjo with clear plastic. You'll see any air immediately. Do the same with the fuel return line from the last injector to the ip.

I reckon for the job that you've done things have turned out pretty well Be patient and it'll all come together.
