Looks like i've got a rattly DMF (Dual mass flywheel! Golf TDI 2005 2L Man.). Usually only happens for 10-20 seconds at idle when cold and stops as soon as I put the clutch in, then generally doesn't make the sound again till the next day.
How long will it last from now? I do usually drive 'spiritedly', so I don't labour the engine!
Clutch feels very good still, but I imagine I should do both DMF and clutch at the same time. I'm not fussed if I have to put a single mass flywheel on, given the price difference is allegedly huge. VW has said about 2.5k to do a clutch alone, then a DMF on top of that! Even on a euro car 2.5k for a clutch is pretty insane and given that cost, I may even do it myself if ASV can source a kit for it...
Has anyone else to had to replace the DMF/clutch? How much have you paid (and where?). I'm in Sydney!
