Had a valuation done on my 2.0 tdi Pacific. Ithought it would be nice to upgrade to a GTD. They wanted $23k for a no extras GTD. I don't want one now! Can anyone help me with an opinion on a DP chip for mk v 2.0 TDI? I've searched and searched and really not learned much helpful info. They want $1450 so there would need to be a decent power gain. DP themselves supplied a dyno chart which showed power to be 103kw after chip was fitted!

josh has a dp chip on his polo tdi, and it goes pretty hard!
there is much talk that a remap would be ''better'' than a plug-n-play chip, but there are also plenty of people who're happy with a plug-n-play chip with no issues whatsoever.
the reversability of a plug-n-play chip is one of its strong points, but to be honest, the guys who have bought plug-n-play chips on this forum seem to have got them at pretty damn good prices- i dont know if you'll find many on here who'd be willing to pay $1500 for a non-remap power upgrade.
for $1500 [or much less, with some of the companies], you could get a remap from companies like giac, custom code, revo technic, superchips/ bluefin, chippeduk [mine's remapped with them], and viezu, not to mention other companies like oettinger [oettinger can be pricey, though].
if the DP chip was on sale for like $500, i'd go it, but for $1500 i'd consider someone who does a remapping service. my chippeduk remap [with a handset that enables me to switch between 3 maps, all from the drivers seat] only cost $800. 30,000km's of abuse on my car and counting, and not a single problem.
just my 2c.

Thanks mate, but I thought that a plug and play chip that worked would be better for me than a re-map, mainly because it would be a simple matter to remove it if necessary. I still can not find anyone that has a DP chip to bounce some questions off.

The 2.0 TDI Pacific is 103kw from the factory, is it not ? (We are talking VW Golf aren't we?) That may be slightly less on a dyno chart but for $1500 I'd expect a lot more than that from it. I also have the Chipped UK ST3 remap on the GT TDI and I'm very happy with it. It only takes around 10 - 15 mins to DIY and mine was less than half the price of the DP chip you're talking about. There are plenty of options around, you might want to do a bit more homework before you part with those sort of $$. It's your money and your decision but.......................
Just another opinion anyway

Scotty I've got a TDI chip
but yeh, I've had no issues apart from higher fuel consumption (because its too much fun to punt now!) and higher tyre wear (see previous brackets
)
well worth it, difference is night and day. Get on it!
Custom Code does a mean TDI map. That's who I'll be using when its time for a bigger turbo!VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

I had a Diesel Power chip in my Golf V until I sold the car 12 months ago. I don't know if this is the same as DP. It's Diesel-Power
The power and torque gain were awesome, and made the car fun to drive. I never did dyno figures on the box, but it was well worth the $900 it cost me five years ago. No idea what the cost is today though.
I also had one in my Multivan. Unfortunately this one decided to give up the ghost - resulting in the Multivan no-go, until I removed the box.
If I had the opportunity to do it again I would.Golf V TDI 2005 - SOLD

I've got the Superchips/Bluefin map in my '07 Jetta. $800.00
The increased power is very noticable, revs much more freely & better fuel economy than stock map when, as said elsewhere, it's not being punted.
Easy to reload the original map again if needed. It's Red, It's German & It Flys!!!!sigpic
