Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Has the turbo goooone?????

Working away, just got a message from the wife.
Seems she was drving up a hill and heard a large poping sound, and then lost power
Drove car home, a short distance, no engine lights.
Car was recently serviced 120000 major, and i did notice a hissing noise when tubo kicked in
    after this service.
Seems to me the turbo may have blown or a hose come loose, any ideas?
Is the car ok to drive short distances?

My vote is a blown hose, car will still be fine to drive just very gutless, and if you hop underneath the radiator area I bet it's one of the three clip in connectors under there. One pre intercooler, one post, and one about 30cm after that around a 180 degree corner before it heads up to the engine in the centre. Also a few other spots, but harder to find..

    Hope that's all it is!

Good call guys, a hose had dropped off the intercooler, clip has gone missing.
temporary repair effected while new clamp arrives.
        Anyway a good outcome.
NB our local dealer has an R in the showroom, its worth a look.
