After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Hey folks,

    A good friend of mine is looking at getting himself a new/demo golf diesel or polo. Can someone please offer me some advice on;
    1. Dealerships
    2. Price
    3. Any contacts anyone may have
    4. Recommendations in general.

    Thanks again.

    hey mate how's it going?

    in melbourne, i guess there are enough dealerships that enough people have had good experiences with- i got my car from burwin vw out at dandenong/knox, and they were really good. i hate feeling uncomfortable when buying a car, and often enough in the past i had felt like the dealer had the upper hand, and that that was simply a part of buying a car. not so with burwin. they were patient, knocked a decent amount off the price when i talked to them about another potential car in the lot that i was looking at, and i felt 100% happy when i drove away. barloworld seemed okay too.

    but people say dont go to essendon because they're a ''pack of c**ts". i test drove a car there when i was shopping for my current car a couple of years ago, and during the test drive, the salesman asked if i wanted to sign paperwork when we got back. i said ''this is something that i have to think about, as it's a purchase im going to be living with for a while'' to which he basically told me not to bother test driving cars unless im ready to buy, because it is a waste of everyone's time. so steer clear of essendon.... they're a$$holes.

    if it's ex demo, try to push them for a minor service before you drive it out of the lot. some dealers might say ''but mate, it's new, and these cars are incredibly well built, so it doesnt need it!''. it does. it's a diesel. that people thrash as part of the test drive process. and diesels dont like being thrashed from cold. get that oil replaced so that you can minimize engine wear.

    other than that, if its ex demo, there isnt really too much to worry about other than price. they're good cars. they go the distance- i abuse the crap out of my polo all the time and it hasnt skipped a beat once in 60,000kms.

    cheers,

    scotty

      Dealer Recommendations

      I dealt with Essendon,Moorabbin and Sth Yarra and Sth Yarra was where i bought as i found them far more professional, although the guy i bought through has now gone, i still take there for servicing and am happy.
