  • What Oil ? 2006 2.0TDI

I know it is a well trodden path - I did a search and all the posts seem pretty old.

What oil are you people using? The local dealer used to use Mobil 1 and sold a top up 1 litre bottle for around $20 or would refill it at service time for the same price. I am using about 1 litre between services (15K)

The dealer changed to Castrol but in a bottle with VW on it for $30. Look I have a scottish background but how much is too much to pay for one litre of oil?

I can get (Adelaide) Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow long life III for $351.70 per 20 litre. ($17.60/L)
    or
    Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 for $299.80 per 20 litre ($15/L)

    both are 507.00 rated

    Any suggestions?

Penrite do a suitable oil now, and I've run it happily in my "inbetween" 7500km changes.

Thanks Transporter. I will chase up some of the Elf stuff. Any tips on where it is available in Adelaide?

        Cheers Macca

I have one of the 208L drums that landed in this country. I can sell you/anyone if you like. The price is as above, can deliver to you if you live near me.

It might also be worth checking the price/availablity of Shell Helix Ultra Extra (it is VW 507.00 too). If you can get it from Supercheap when they have it on special then that will bring the price down.
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

Thanks for the feedback. Picked up a 5 litre Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W30 from SuperCheap today for $60 after 20% discount. $12 per litre is quite healthy on my wallet.

              Cheers Macca

At that price you should get 2 bottles!
