really? quite odd that they make the exact same power.. 103kw/320nm and even come with the 6 speed manual AND a 6 speed auto just like the golf..

damn.. was thinking of buying one.. though if it isnt the same engine then i dont think i want one..

the Golf doesn't have an auto... its a DSG (twin clutch manual)

alot of car companies have very similar outputs in their engines. Doesn't meen its the same engine or that they will have the same driving characteristics!

              Holden Cruze diesel makes 110kw.
Mazda 3 diesel makes 110kw as well.
              BMW 118D makes 105kw.
              Ford Mondeo diesel makes 96kw.

Those 4 are all within 7kw of the golf and peugeot figures.

c4, c5, 308, 307, focus, mondeo all princibly use the same 2L TDI and auto combination.

I have driven the 308 and the torque from idle is amazing though the older 307 apparently is much more laggy. the golf is easier to tune as you have.

perhaps check out a Jetta. Do you need bigger boot or internally bigger as 307 will not be bigger inside than golf even the touring.

I'd be checking out a Mazda6 wagon but your budget would be stretched no matter what you look out unless you're prepared to buy something smaller

found a 307 wagon for 20k.. missus wants a wagon.. so that rules out most of others.

It seems that Peugeot and VW had the good numbers back in 2005 where everyone else was a couple of years later.. though i could be wrong.. and cause of limited budget 2005 looks way better than 2008..

might just end up with another golf though.. wouldnt be a bad thing.. can pick them up for 19k now. though was hoping for something a little bigger.

                  thanks for the info guys.

They are tunable for another 20% in power.

New 308 touring is a bit of a sleeper for a family wagon.

thanks for all the replies guys. 307 touring still looking like a winner.

too bad the passet wagon is still a bit expensive.

Sage head out to City Peugeot they have(had) a few 307 tourings which depsite the 25k price tags could be had for about $20k. oh, try and get the 2L but the 1.6L despite the numbers is no slouch my brother has one and once off the line has plenty of go
