Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Nice airbox upgrade from the US of A

Found this at Parleys Diesel where I bought mt methanol kit and muffler, and it's a GREAT idea, exactly what the stock setup needs. Would allow you to ditch the MAF grid, and get the best airflow possible with the stock inlet. Oh yeah, pull the leaf grid out of the bottom of your airbox as well. Real world hp, stuff all, but if you're gonna spend, this is a good, well thought out solution to the restriction pre turbo in my opinion.

Looks much closer to stock, a lot simpler to fit, easy to service, I reckon I'd be happy with one of those if I was doing it again. Would definately be quieter too, my setup may be zero restriction, but it sure is noisy!

I thought you were happy with your modded Modshack, Greg. Parleys sure has a lot of diesel performance products.

I am absolutely. Was just pointing this out for others, a lot simpler and cleaner way to overcome what I believe to be the main problem in the stock lid, the 90 degree outlet. From what I understand it is the same for any normal Golf, Jetta, TDI etc only the GTI is different in MKV's. As per any airbox mod don't expect a lot, but if I was doing this second time around, I'd be happy with that lid.

But the noise is the best part, especially in carparks!

I have had young guys in work utes drive beside me, head out looking back trying to work out what all the noise is about.

Carparks are a *little* embarassing....and my inlet lets the VNT vane flutter noise out like a blow off valve, you can pretend you're a fully sik Rex.

I've had one of these in the garage for about a year...... The car has just come out of warranty & I've eventually fitted it. I don't know why I hesitated as it only took about 15 minutes to change over.

No noticable difference in noise, not sure about improved performance as it is already flash tuned & drives brilliantly. Also to early to tell about economy.
