pressure plate to CS bolts:
stage 1 - 60NM / 44ft.lbs
stage 2 - angle tighten further 90deg (hehe, its hard) - use blue threadlocker
flywheel bolts (use 9 if you've got enough, the normal mk1 180mm setup only has 6 i think)

threadlocker
sachs clutch came supplied with new bolts with blue substance around middle of the threads. I assume this is the threadlocker, these germans they think of everything.
happiness is a clean box as my ex girlfriend used to say

life wasnt meant to be easy
Went hard yesterday got the clutch and flywheel on aligned the clutch by eye got mum and the wife in the act and got the box slotted in and the two top bolts in. At this stage was starting to think figjamme Im good. I then looked down the bottom of the box and noticed the dust shield was proud. At first I thought nothing of it and went around checking everything else, then I looked more closely and my heart sank.
Life want meant to be @#%&ing easy, the bigger flywheel must have been deeper than the original and its fouling on the dust shield. Matt sent me a smaller dust shield but it only covers the bottom and if I had used it alone other areas would have been open to the weather. I am pretty sure that that box is aligned properly even though it wont close at the bottom.
I want to retain the old dust shield cause it fits perfect everywhere else and to get it off I will have to remove the flywheel again, so today I am going to painfully and carefully cut out a section whilst covering everything in shard, and hopefully remove where its fouling and cover it with the small shield that came with the new box. Anybody had this problem?
Just call me the butcher of Beaudesert

Sounds like you are having fun mate. Its nice to do it with all the new bolts and gear. I have put too many Mk1s together with old bits and pieces.
Too old for that now, do it once and do it right I reckon.
Did you sort out a gearbox mount yet??sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Matt I cant find it
I'm going to toss the whole place tommorow the parts box sat on the verandah for days after the gearbox went on the scenic route (freight company not Matt) and the last chance is the kids might have moved it but its unlikely. Wife hasn't seen it and I showed her what one looks like today. Did a massive cleanup today.
Don't know I'm stumped? Pretty sure it wasn't in the box. Can you send me one on Monday? If I do find it later I will send the spare back or to a location of your choice.
No luck on any Calipers for the front? Is it possible to source them new? Also in the market for coilovers? Can you supply?
And yes I am having fun but I'm out of practice!
Thanks for the help MattLast edited by oracle1; 19-09-2009, 08:10 PM.Spark ignition is a threatened species

Found some calipers the other day actually. You`d need new disks and pads though.
I will send you a mount on Monday. Did you get any bolts for the CVs??
