  • GT TDI Economy - Road Trip

Guys just thought id share a few figures from a trip i did last week.

Drove from Melbourne up thru Mt Gambier to Adelaide, followed by the Barossa, Mildura, Echuca and Glenrowan on the way back to Melbourne.

4 Adults with the boot crammed with luggage (and wine by the end of it)

Driving with cruise at 103 in 100 and 113 in 110's, verified with satnav. taking no prisoners when overtaking (well north of 110 at times) most of the trip was in 110 zones where i found id use nearly an extra l/100 over driving in 1 100km/h zone

    Total Trip - 2326km
    Time - 29 hours
    Average Speed - 80km/h
Economy - 6.2 l/100 - on both display and calculated by litres pumped and odo reading.

best stint was 890km on 52 litres at 5.9 l/100 with 50km remaining.

To be honest im pretty impressed to have done that and only have to refuel twice the whole trip without babying the car in the slightest, or trying to save weight.

I did notice that each tank i used i got a lot more out of it than the last, maybe something to do with the car having been used for primarily short trips for the past few months and getting a good blow out.

Yeah, its not run in til about 40k, started out the trip with 17k on it and its just gone over 20 now.

I got a handy little iphone app that tracks fuel so now i can keep an eye on what it is doing real easy.

        Nice going there, steve_tdi.

I've noticed a downward trend in economy (6.8 l/100 lifetime average, now 41,000km) over the life of my car (the Passat - Eos is still too new).

Which iPhone app are you using? While I have a spreadsheet on the computer for more detailed info, I also use AccuFuel on the iPod.

        Regards,
        Michael

The one ive been using is "Road Trip LE" its free for 1 car, but $3.99 to add more vehicles and be able to export data etc. havent bought it yet, but it seems worth the price of a beer so far, given that i have more than 1 vehicle.

Steve, what sort of consumption* are you getting on the shorter urban trips?

Overall average is around 7.5ish i can burn thru a tank in about 650km if im only doing short trips to/from work, but i do tend to lead foot it a bit around back streets quite a bit in sport mode for that type of driving.
