After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.
Im going to start looking around for a second hand GT TDI!

i wonder how many of the powertrain engineers at VW left work and all got drunk together at the local the evening after the emissions guys bolted the DPF on?

Agreed but Mischa and I were thinking about it some more.
Can the drivetrain handle it? I wouldn't do it if I had DSG. Also the the clutch gonna wear out real quick?
Also if I did it I would upgrade ALL of the engine mounts.
the dsg is a grey area, but the manual box should be ok - clutch will only wear out if you slip it.... and if it starts slipping because of too much torque, well, you'll have to upgrade

Did some research on this, and it seems the DPF removal itself is worth about 15hp, and the rest of this powerup is due to some sort of tune which includes removing the DPF regeneration cycle.
Exhaust temps apparently become an issue beyond this sort of power, but I'd bet with no DPF, the turbo would spool up far quicker, the overall temps would be lower, and there would be a nice improvement in economy. That kind of balances out the fact you'll be putting out more particulates, but using less fuel overall.
Only downside is it's only a matter of time till they start measuring particulates on diesels, and this would be very obvious. Still great news for us DPF types.

If the DPF is only losing 15hp then it really isn't that huge a hinderance as I had previously thought.
So are you saying the 240hp on the customcode website is not a "DPF delete + Stage 1 tune" but just a "DPF and regen cycle delete tune"? If that were so I assume that this wouldn't put any increased stress on the engine like a "Stage 1 tune" would.
Also when these cars come out of the "3 year no need for a rego check" period will the DPF be on the list? If catalytic convertors are checked I can't see why a DPF wouldn't be.
