HELP!!! I am chasing two front brake hoses for my 1996 Tdi, and I am being quoted between $80 and $120 per side!! Ouch. I am told that the fittings on the end are unusual, but they are the same as the hoses from a VR6 (vented rotors) even though the Tdi has solid. Anyone got any ideas where to go for what I would have thought to be a fairly standard part? Maybe the UK? any ideas welcome the brakes are a bit spongy! Can anyone tell me the correct OE part number, that will help the internet search. Cheers

on another note, why do you think you need to change them? are they physically damaged? spongy brakes can be caused by many things...1st culprit is usually air in the lines, or old fluid that has absorbed some water.

The inner lining has broken and the outer lining is bulging on one set, and there are cracks in the other set. I got quoted $118 per side from Northern Volks via VW themselves, no after market, and $85 from my local parts guys (Northenr Volks guy says go for the $85 ones because they are probably wrong. ABS have quoted $45 per side custom made possibly using the male part off the old ones. In the UK these are under ten pounds!! The part number is peculiar to the Tdi and whatever that 6 cylinder thing is called, and not the same (I am told) as the petrol Mk3s.
