  • golf mk3 tdi 1996 glow light flashing.

Hi there,my golf's glow light starts flashing 20 minutes after start up.
    Otherwise the car operates normaly.
when glow light starts to flash if i restart the car it will disappier for a cycle of 20 min.
Has anyone had this problem befor?I was thinking maybe the glows need replacing, but i dont know if its been done before.
It has done 275"000 kms and has been a good reliable runaround since i've 75000 kms on it.
it's stock standardand only has a 3"down pipe stright threw no muffler, with a performance tunning box.
I've taken that out for a day but the light still flashes
any ideas whay this is hapenning?
    thank you all.

sorry mate, no idea... the glo circuit is controlled by temp sensors and a couple of other htings - maybe you have a temp sensor on the way out? hard to say.... also, there is a timing circuit built into the glow plug relay circuit, maybe theres a fault there.

either way, a scan with VAGCOM may be able to detect a fault somewhere. GolfLoon may be able to help you out.

      Thanks mate.
i've spoken with golf loon today,he rekon we change the glow plugs, and if not there is a sort of warming thing up the streem which might be cousing it to be changed.would it be ok to drive a couple of days?
im so stuck with work, work and work, looking forward for fixing it,befor gets worse.thank you for recomendation.
I think i need to do a vagcom,i dont know if golf loon doese that at the moment,i'll call him tomorrow to find out,he is always helpfull.
if not,is this a volkswagen dealer thing,to be over charged?
anyone with a vagcom,or trouble shooting?
      thank you all.

the glow light is not flashing for past 2 days.
i have replaiced the rear brake fuse, probably got nothing to do with it.
the only thing i can think of,is that for the first time,i've filled up the tank
to the neck no air remaining, was a mistake, maybe that was a reason for it
i dont know, but so far no light flashing
i'll let know what i'll experience, might come handy for someone
in the future, but so far i think, the neck filling of the tank have coused it?
          maybe.
          thank you all.

i wouldnt think so. more likely it is an electrical fault that is intermittent in nature. you may find it reappears again sooner or later.

glow plugs can be a little inconsistnet as they begin to die, sometimes they work better than other times.

            good luck
