  • Transmission or clutch stuffed?

    2006 TDI 2.0 diesel Passat Auto 60,000km.

Wife was driving home and when she came to a stop the car lunged forward and then stalled. When I got there the car started no problem but as soon as I moved the auto gear lever into drive it lunges and then stalls. This happened also when putting in reverse.
I got the car home (only about 500m) by flooring the gas pedal as soon as i put it in gear. On the way home the car said "PARKING BRAKE FAULT — see manual".
Once home i turned the car off then back on and the fault had gone but same symptoms. Put it in gear then there is a big CLUNK and stall.

Any ideas? The car sometimes , but not very often did the lunging thing while driving without a foot on the gas pedal.

I'd say your suspicions are right. Because it lurches when placed in gear then stalls, I'd imagine there is a fault with the DSG - perhaps one of the clutches or the electronics. Hopefully someone with a bit more know-how or who has perhaps experience the problem will post soon.

Out of interest once you floored it and it got moving, would it stall when you slowed to a stop?

If still under warranty I would call VW Assist and it would be towed to a dealer.

I've thought about this a bit more Eluderino and have another question. Once you got it moving, did your Passat seem weird whilst in gears 3 or 5? I'm only asking as one clutch runs 1, 3 & 5 (and reverse I assume) whilst the other clutch runs 2, 4 & 6.

It definitely seems like one of the two clutches have gone, or an electrics fault. I wouldn't have thought a clutch would go at the 60K mark, but then again, a lot of things shouldn't happen and they do.
