  • GT Sport TDI Stupid Question??

    Hi all,

I have just purchased an 07 GT Sport TDI, what a sensational car after my 96 petrol Mk3! However.. I've just had to fill up with diesel... with great difficulty.. The pump nozzle will not fit all the way into the filler tube, causing the pump to turn off with fuel turbulence near the nozzle, in just the same way it was with petrol way back when I first came to Oz and tried to fill an unleaded barina from a leaded pump! It took me about 5 minutes to fill up..
    Am I missing something here???

    Thanks Guys

    Mark - WA

Never had a problem unless the servo has put a Truck style nozzle on to one of the pumps.

The pump was most likely a high flow pump for heavy vehicles.
Has been a few threads on this is the past.
Lookout for the smaller nozzle diesel pump, some offer both types on the same pump.
You can usually distinguish by the thicker black hose compared to the same type hose they use for ULP.

If it is the high flow (truck filling) pump you may have tried filling with, if there is a next time, just dont squeeze the trigger as hard......

          High flow pump

          Thanks guys,

yes, I do recall seeing the words 'high flow' on the pump. Are all diesel pumps totally separate from the petrol or are there 'domestic' diesel pumps?

          Thanks - Mark

Most servos have the truck/high flow pumps out from under cover (due to the height of the truck) and some lower flow/car diesel pumps under cover, almost every BP i've been to it has been the higher number pumps (like 13/14) but hidden at the end of the petrol pumps down near the LPG pumps, so cruise past em all and you should see it

Yeah usually right by the gas pumps so u have to queue with all the damn taxi's to get fuel.

Have to say that sometimes you feel like a 2nd class citizen for wanting to put diesel in a car, what with the hidden/non-existent pumps and when you do get one its usually covered in oil and grease.

I'm just sick of the way a lot of stations only have 1 regular flow pump! Especially when there's 2 or 3 cars in front of you (even though most of the time they're VAG's) or you've got to stare at the ass of an ugly SsangYong for 10mins.. Not to mention the wasted time...

Find a few favourite servo's and just do a park and walk around to work out where the diesel bowsers are. Given the 800km plus range you now enjoy, I just make an effort to go via my favourite servo on tight ar$e Tuesday and top up whatever is there.

Enjoy the amazing combination of power AND economy. Never gets old!

Have noticed a few BP servo's adding another diesel pump recently.
I suspect they are getting ready for the ultimate diesel.

Which is different to regular diesel how??
I always use BP coz I have a BP card, so regardless of whether it's ultimate or not I still fill up!

Most metro Brisbane BP is now Ultimate. Cleaners and higher cetane rating. You won't notice a thing on a standard tune I'm afraid.

Oh well.. At least it's the same price and it doesn't have me wondering.. "Should I go the Ultimate this time?".. (Like I did with unleaded all the time).

I wonder when we will get that here. Is it any more expensive ?

Over the normal diesel it was a few cents (2-3) higher when first introduced, but sneaky BP now charges pretty much the same price for any diesel up here. Most major sites are ultimate now though, seems to be what the future holds. I don't use anything but, for many reasons, but mainly that the darn DPF is going to clog for good sooner or later, and extra smoke is going to speed up the process. I want my oiler running as clean as possible, but you have a big advantage over stock with the tune, and cleaner air/fuel ratio.

You'd need a higher cetane tune to take full advantage of it Logzy, but you'd be the guy most likely to be able to wrangle that! I believe higher cetane equals possible earlier injection, allowing a better charge and more neddies!
