After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

  • Same diesel, different nozzles?

    So im just filling up my brand new tdi pacific for the 2nd time, and come across a fairly cheap mobil station.

    they have a separate bowsers for diesel, so parking there i tried to fill up. But the nozzle was too big and i couldnt get it in properly. i checked the bowser and it was definately diesel. so i started fillling up, but pressing the gun too hard made the diesel spill out. in the end, i got worried after putting in 5 bucks worth, and drove off to another station. that other station had normal sized pumps that went in fine.

    So my question is, are all diesels the same, and was it ok to fill up with the bigger nozzle pump?

    (i have no idea about diesels tbh)

    big nozzles are for big trucks and things. small nozzles for cars like yours. use the small nozzle unless you like fuel going everywhere

          We've all been there mate, and if you trickle it in you can fill it up in about 5 minutes! My first time I thought WTF...???

              Depending on the servo, you might find one side of the bowser has the big nozzle & the other a small ... at least you didnt put petrol in it

                Some servos have the "small diesel" nozzles hidden in with the car unleaded outlets. But you almost have to get out and look around to see which is which at some servos. At my local BP they only have two, and there is often someone parked against them who is f@rt@arsing around in the shop and taking forever.

                  ahh, i love my mk1 and mk3 - hi flow friendly and fill in under 10 seconds from empty!

                    The large nozzle is high flow generally for trucks and the small nozzle is for passenger cars. The pumps generally are marked if they are high flow or not.

                      Always figured you to be big nozzle friendly.

                        Yes sir! The pug fits a highflow nozzle too. I reckon that could be a selling point for new diesel golfs. "10 seconds to fill up, and you don't even have to do it very often!"

                        Or maybe someone should design an aftermarket filler.. Would that be against ADRs?

                          Bah you youngin's are always in a hurry, I'm a stayer, I like to make it last, slow and steady and it gives me time to enjoy the curves and general shape of the GT while I'm waiting. Owning a diesel is like being married for a long time, when you get to put the nozzle in you'll want to make it last as long as possible because it's usually a while between visits.
