No chance to get to the dealer this week and I doubt if VAGCOM could trace the fault if she started and is going anyway. I guess I'll have to wait for her to fail again and get VW Assist to truck the car to the dealer. (Do they do that??)
If it is charging and there is no parasitic current discharging the battery overnight, it is the faulty battery to me. There are to many faults within the battery to list. Tell the dealer to give you a new battery and they can test your old battery in their vehicle or by other means. Or have the battery tested somewhere else many places who sell batteries will test your battery for free.

VW did a recall on all Mk5 TDIs because it turned out that there was a software fault and the stereos were drawing enough current to flatten the battery. This is a bit incredible to me as it takes a LOT of current draw to flatten a diesel's battery in 18hrs! Anyway, when I took it in to get the re-flash done I was sent away with the words....."It's fixed...This won't happen again!".... And it has. I'm not impressed as it's a 300km round trip to my nearest VW dealer workshop and God knows what damage it's done to my now 2.75 yo battery.

Has anybody else had this happen a second time?
My car is 4y.o. and there were not a single recall I received at all. You definitely have problem with the battery and it has usually 2 years warranty, so anything more is your luck. I had car left with mobile charger connected for three weeks and it started like a new one, but 3 weeks later battery went flat and I couldn't start the car in the morning. After charging it for 2 hours it started, but voltage was around 12.3-12.5V and I went and bought the biggest battery I could fit in.
So under 2 years claim warranty on the battery otherwise buy Bosch or Exide or better ones.

The battery in my last Ford died at 6 months, and "Ford assist" just sent a RACQ guy who fitted a newie then and there for me. I'd expect VW would do something similar rather than a flat bed! Too costly.

Just in case anybody's wondering, I'm keeping this thread updated so that it may help someone with a similar problem in the future.
How did you go at the dealer?
